Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for one of their clients in the Chattanooga area to support projects in the power generation industry. This engineer will work remotely in the South East, with occasional day trips to job sites in the region. There will be daily collaboration within a team environment alongside engineers, designers, and drafters to develop mechanical designs for additions and modifications to power generation facilities. Responsibilities include serving as the lead responsible engineer, performing pipe stress analysis, modeling fluid systems, selecting materials, and completing engineering calculations for mechanical equipment. The role involves creating and reviewing detailed design packages such as P&IDs, equipment layouts, piping plans, pipe supports, isometrics, and bills of materials using 2D and 3D design software.

DAY TO DAY

• Participating in site walkdowns, collecting field data,
• Performing laser scans, and incorporating existing conditions into accurate design models.
• Peer review design packages, ensure compliance with applicable industry codes and standards, and maintain adherence to project scope, schedule, and budget. Provide technical leadership, mentor junior team members, and coordinate with other disciplines to deliver constructible designs.

Skills and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• EIT or PE (PE Preferred)
• 5+ years of experience in piping and plant design within power generation, chemical, or industrial environments.
• Demonstrated expertise in pipe stress analysis using AutoPipe or CAESAR II
• Proficient in 2D and 3D design tools such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, SolidWorks, and related modeling and laser scanning software.
• Ability to lead projects, mentor junior staff, and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and clients. Must have excellent communication skills, this role requires heavy team collaboration and client interaction Mechanical PE
