Full job description

The Principal Architect, Platform Infrastructure is a senior technical leader. You will guide how our company builds and runs its cloud and technology systems. Your goal is to make sure these systems are secure, well managed, and cost-effective, so platform and application teams can do their best work. You will work across cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and site reliability. A big part of this job is leading our move to AWS. You will also set the standard patterns that the Platform Engineering and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams build on. You will partner closely with the leaders of those teams. You will also manage the DevOps and Infrastructure team and be responsible for its results.

You will set the direction, rules, and roadmap for infrastructure and DevOps. You will not design applications or manage delivery for application teams.

Responsibilities:

Infrastructure and DevOps Architecture

  • Set and maintain the vision for infrastructure and DevOps across platform engineering.

  • Create standard patterns for cloud accounts, setup, environments, and tools.

  • Make sure solutions follow company architecture and security rules and are easy for teams to use.

  • Find problems that are best solved once at the platform level instead of by each team.

AWS Migration and Cloud Account Governance

  • Find and list our on-premises and existing cloud workloads to decide what should move.

  • Lead the AWS migration from start to finish, including account rules, lift-and-shift, and updating moved workloads.

  • Find all AWS accounts across engineering and bring them into our standard platform patterns.

  • Set and enforce standards for new and existing accounts, including tagging, access, guardrails, and cost control.

  • Work with the Cloud Center of Excellence (CoE), AWS account teams, and finance/FinOps partners to use credit and incentive programs tied to migration results.

  • Track and share progress, risks, and dependencies across applications and accounts.

Partnership with Platform Engineering and SRE

  • Be the infrastructure and DevOps partner to platform engineering and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) so all three groups work as one team.

  • Make sure our infrastructure and DevOps practices support developer needs, reliability, and resiliency.

  • Line up roadmaps so work like migration, tools, and standards happens in the right order without repeated effort.

Team and Technical Leadership

  • Manage the DevOps and Infrastructure team. Set priorities, coach team members, and connect their work to the infrastructure and migration roadmap.

  • Act as a senior technical expert. Review designs and guide infrastructure and DevOps decisions across platform and application teams.

  • Help solve hard infrastructure and cloud problems that cross teams.

  • Work as a technical partner to senior engineering, architecture, and security leaders.

  • Make decisions on your own within clear company guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of related experience

  • Experience designing and leading cloud infrastructure, especially on AWS

  • Experience leading cloud migrations, including lift-and-shift and modernization

  • Strong knowledge of DevOps practices and tools

  • Understanding of cloud account governance, including tagging, access controls, guardrails, and cost management

  • Familiarity with platform engineering and site reliability practices

  • Experience managing, coaching, and guiding a technical team

  • Ability to influence senior leaders through expertise, teamwork, and credibility

  • Ability to work with finance partners on cloud costs and incentive programs

  • Strong skills in tracking and reporting progress, risks, and dependencies

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
