Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking an experienced Interior Designer to join our Healthcare team. In this role, you will help shape healing environments that enhance patient experiences, support caregivers, and improve operational efficiency. Working closely with healthcare clients, architects, engineers, and multidisciplinary project teams, you will translate functional requirements, clinical workflows, and design aspirations into innovative interior environments that meet project goals, budgets, and regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will contribute to all phases of project delivery, including programming, planning, design, documentation, furniture and finish selection, and construction administration. This role requires a strong understanding of healthcare design principles, evidence-based design, interior materials, furnishings, and healthcare operational considerations.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the development of interior design concepts through sketches, renderings, diagrams, material palettes, and digital visualization tools.

Collaborate with healthcare clients, user groups, and project teams to understand clinical workflows, operational goals, and project objectives.

Develop space planning, departmental planning, and adjacency studies that support efficient patient care and staff workflows.

Create innovative interior environments that balance function, aesthetics, infection prevention, durability, maintainability, and patient experience.

Participate in programming, visioning, user-group meetings, and design workshops.

Influence the design of interior architectural spaces, balancing aesthetics, functionality, wellness, and client objectives to create exceptional user experiences.

Develop finish palettes, material specifications, color studies, and furniture concepts that align with project goals and healthcare operational requirements.

Assist in the selection, specification, and coordination of furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E).

Prepare and revise design documentation throughout all project phases, including schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction administration.

Utilize BIM technologies, including Revit, to develop and coordinate interior design documentation.

Coordinate interior design solutions with architecture, engineering, lighting, technology, and specialty consultants.

Interpret and apply accessibility codes, healthcare regulations, life safety requirements, and applicable building codes.

Participate in client presentations, design reviews, and stakeholder engagement sessions.

Conduct product and material research to identify innovative, sustainable, and healthcare-appropriate design solutions.

Support construction administration activities including submittal reviews, finish reviews, site observations, and responses to RFIs as required.

Advocate for design excellence, innovation, and evidence-based design principles within the Healthcare Practice.

Mentor junior designers and contribute to a collaborative and inclusive culture.
Your Capabilities and Credentials

Strong understanding of healthcare planning and interior design principles, including patient-centered and evidence-based design approaches.

Ability to develop space planning, block planning, adjacency diagrams, and interior concepts for healthcare environments.

Knowledge of healthcare design considerations, including infection prevention, patient safety, behavioral health environments, and operational workflows.
-
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining design quality and meeting project schedules.
-
Strong presentation, communication, and client engagement skills.

Ability to translate complex project requirements into thoughtful and innovative design solutions.
-
Experience selecting and specifying healthcare-grade finishes, furnishings, and materials.

Thorough understanding of accessibility regulations, applicable building codes, and healthcare design standards.

Working knowledge of building systems, construction methods, and project delivery processes.

Strong proficiency in Revit and BIM-centered project delivery.
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Photoshop, and Bluebeam; experience with SketchUp, Enscape, Newforma, InDesign, and visualization software preferred.

Demonstrated commitment to collaboration, professional growth, and continuous learning.

Ability to contribute effectively within multidisciplinary project teams and engage constructively in design critiques and reviews.
Education and Experience

A degree in Interior Design or a related field preferred.
-
Minimum 7 years of professional interior design experience.
-
Healthcare project experience required, including hospitals, ambulatory care facilities, medical office buildings, behavioral health facilities, or specialty healthcare environments.

NCIDQ certification preferred.
-
Active involvement in IIDA, CIDQ, or other professional organizations preferred.
-
LEED Green Associate, LEED AP, WELL AP, or similar sustainability and wellness credentials preferred.

Pay Range:
- Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, ME, NY, VA Areas-$69,400.00 - $100,600.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).
Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
