Full job description

The ICE Internship Program offers a dynamic opportunity to combine hands-on, impactful work on projects that shape our business, alongside practical career and professional development. You’ll build meaningful connections, strengthen your interpersonal skills, and contribute in ways that truly make a difference.

Beyond your day-to-day responsibilities, you’ll participate in weekly sessions led by industry leaders, connect with fellow interns, and deepen your understanding of the financial services, technology, and mortgage industries.

The Trading System Development Intern will support the development and testing of components of the NYSE Pillar trading system.

Responsibilities

  • Support development and testing of exchange platform components, assisting engineers in building, debugging, and validating features across the trading system (e.g., matching engine, gateways, market data, order handling), typically in C++ in a low-latency environment

  • Contribute to test automation and validation tooling, writing and running unit, integration, and conformance tests and building scripts to reproduce trading scenarios and verify correctness against exchange specifications

  • Analyze system behavior and performance data, examining logs, latency statistics, and market data to identify anomalies, measure throughput and latency, and summarize findings for the engineering team

Knowledge and Experience

  • Must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field at an accredited university, and be at least advancing to their junior year of study

  • Programming fundamentals in C++, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and memory management; exposure to multithreading or concurrency is a plus

  • Comfort with Linux and standard development tools such as Git, debugging tools (e.g., gdb), and scripting (Python or shell)

  • Analytical mindset and strong communication skills, with the ability to work through complex problems methodically and clearly document findings

  • Interest in financial markets or trading technology is a plus

Internship Program Schedule

To accommodate varying academic calendars, the ICE Internship Program offers two schedule options:

  • Option 1: May 24, 2027 – August 6, 2027

  • Option 2: June 7, 2027 – August 20, 2027

Candidates will be asked to select their preferred session during the application process.

Please Note: Interns must be available to work full-time, five days a week, at our New York (11 Wall Street) office for the entire duration of one of the designated program schedules. Partial participation or alternate dates cannot be accommodated.

Hourly Pay Rate for New York Candidates
