Data Engineer

Description

Robert Half is seeking an Enterprise Data Modeler to support a major enterprise data initiative for a professional services organization based in Seattle, WA. This consultant will help develop a governed semantic data layer using Denodo, creating consistent business definitions and trusted data models to support reporting, analytics, and AI-assisted data access.

Duration: 6 months contract to hire

Location: 100% remote

Schedule: Monday - Friday - CST hours

Key Responsibilities

• Design and maintain conceptual, logical, and semantic data models that establish consistent business definitions and relationships across enterprise data.

• Build and support Denodo base, derived, interface, and semantic views for reporting, analytics, and AI applications.

• Apply enterprise data modeling standards for naming conventions, keys, relationships, reusable entities, and certified reporting views.

• Reconcile conflicting data definitions, identifiers, and business rules across multiple source systems.

• Define and maintain Denodo metadata, associations, descriptions, and business terminology to support reporting tools and AI-assisted querying.

• Collaborate with data governance and security teams to support data classification, lineage, privacy, and access controls.

• Align data models with master data management (MDM) standards, business glossaries, and data catalog tools such as Collibra.

• Support AI and MCP-based use cases by defining business terminology, synonyms, sample questions, and testing criteria for data query accuracy.

• Maintain documentation, including data dictionaries, entity catalogs, source-to-target mappings, lineage, and modeling standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

• 3+ years of enterprise data modeling experience, including conceptual, logical, physical, or dimensional modeling.

• 3+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, data engineering, analytics engineering, or Denodo data virtualization.

• Experience building or supporting Denodo views, semantic layers, reusable data models, and governed reporting datasets.

• Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational and semi-structured data sources.

• Experience reconciling data across multiple systems with inconsistent definitions, identifiers, or business rules.

• Working knowledge of data governance practices, including metadata management, data lineage, business glossaries, and data stewardship.

• Understanding of master data management concepts, including golden records, cross-reference identifiers, and data matching.

• Familiarity with data security and access controls, including row-level and column-level security, privacy, and confidential data handling.

• Strong documentation, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Denodo certification or advanced Denodo architecture experience.

• Experience with Denodo AI SDK, Denodo Assistant, Denodo MCP Server, or AI chatbot integrations.

• Experience integrating Denodo with Collibra or other enterprise data catalog platforms.

• Familiarity with text-to-SQL, semantic metadata, and AI-assisted data querying.

• Experience with master data management implementations or system consolidation initiatives.

• Familiarity with professional services or law firm data, including clients, matters, billing, timekeepers, and organizational hierarchies.

• Knowledge of ontologies, knowledge graphs, or industry data reference models.
