Job Title: Fitter Fabricator Job Description
The fitter fabricator sets up and lays out steel components from blueprints in a production shop environment. This role cuts and fabricates steel as needed and performs MIG tack welding to prepare assemblies for final welding, ensuring structural accuracy and high-quality workmanship.
Responsibilities

Interpret and read drawings and blueprints to determine layout, dimensions, and specifications for steel components.

Lay out steel parts in a production or steel shop environment according to print and project requirements.

Cut and fabricate steel pieces to size and shape using appropriate shop tools and equipment.

Fit and assemble structural and stainless steel components to ensure proper alignment and fit-up.

Perform MIG welding and tack welding on stainless steel and structural steel to prepare assemblies for final welds.

Inspect completed layouts and fits to verify accuracy against drawings and blueprints.

Work collaboratively within a large weld shop to support production schedules and upcoming project demands.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the steel and weld shop.
Essential Skills
-
At least 2 years of experience fitting and fabricating steel pieces in a steel or production facility.

At least 2 years of MIG welding experience on stainless steel.

At least 2 years of experience reading drawings or blueprints and laying out parts according to print.

Proficiency in steel fabrication, including cutting, fitting, and structural layout.

Ability to perform MIG welding on structural steel and stainless steel.

Strong blueprint and drawing interpretation skills for accurate layout and fitting.

Solid understanding of structural steel components and fabrication processes.

Ability to work accurately with layout tools and measuring equipment in a steel shop environment.

Previous layout experience in a steel environment.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
