Job Description

In order to be considered for this position candidate must be serving permanently in the title or reachable on the civil service list.

Transportation Planning and Management (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division’s responsibilities include planning, street design, curb management, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, and ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists.

The Office of Livable Streets (OLS) is tasked with prioritizing strategic planning, community engagement, research, policy, design, implementation, and long-term management. Their goal is to create streets that are livable, supporting safety, accessibility, inclusion, resiliency, active modes, community cohesion, and economic vitality citywide. Additionally, they aim to enhance New York City's pedestrian, bicycle, and micromobility networks, providing comfortable, connected, green, and reliable transportation options across the five boroughs. They place special emphasis on Priority Investment Areas, mode shift, and reimagining streets. The office also develops innovative new programs, design typologies, project delivery, and analysis tools to meet the demands of a rapidly changing population with evolving needs and technologies.

The Cycling & Micromobility Unit is responsible for the nation's largest network of on-street bicycle facilities (1,200+ lane-miles), enhancing street safety for all users, and increasing bike ridership in the five boroughs. The team's focus is the innovative redesign of city streets to expand and improve the bike network, with emphasis on improving connectivity between neighborhoods, increasing access to safe bicycle infrastructure across the city, and creating a more equitable transportation network that serves all New Yorkers.

Reporting to senior staff in the Cycling & Micromobility Unit, the Greenway Maintenance Program Coordinator will support the management and maintenance of NYC’s greenway network. Collaborating closely with City agencies and other entities, the selected candidate will lead the development of a comprehensive city-wide inventory of the existing greenway network, including facility types, design elements, other physical characteristics, and condition. The Greenway Maintenance Program Coordinator will work closely with others to coordinate day-to-day greenway maintenance through agency partnerships, programs, and other resources, with a focus on expanding and improving maintenance equitably across the five boroughs. Applying network prioritization methodologies, the selected candidate will assess the greenway facilities to identify opportunities for improving the quality, safety, accessibility, and connectivity of the network from an all-ages-and-abilities perspective. In this role, the successful candidate will also identify quality and physical gaps in the greenway systems and work closely with the Street Improvement Project and Capital teams to prioritize improvements and advance projects. The candidate will work with the Bridges Division to identify existing bridges for bicycle and pedestrian improvements and support the development and prioritization of new bicycle and pedestrian bridges. This role will also collaborate with relevant stakeholders on greenway wayfinding and initiatives to strengthen and elevate the identity and branding of the City’s greenway network. The candidate will develop and manage datasets; create graphics, reports, analyses, and other materials to support the assessment and management of the greenway network; participate in field visits, interagency meetings, and stakeholder meetings related to greenway maintenance, improvement, and conceptual project development. This role will collaborate with City agencies, public authorities, and other partners to identify funding opportunities for day-to-day maintenance, landscaping, state-of-good-repair needs, bridge projects, and other greenway improvements.
