We are seeking a Mental Health Professional I, who is motivated to help individuals and families navigate life's challenges and achieve long-term wellness. This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 164 Waccamaw Medical Park Dr, Conway, SC 29526.

As the Mental Health Professional I, working under limited supervision, you will serve as an embedded mental health professional within the community to deliver community-based clinical assessments, therapeutic services to children, adolescents, adults, and families identified by law enforcement as experiencing mental health concerns. Collaborate closely with police, fire, rescue, and community agencies to coordinate referrals, facilitate access to appropriate care, and provide information on available resources to assist persons in need.

Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional I: • Provide mental health screening, assessments, and crisis intervention to children, adolescents, and adults identified by local law enforcement as living mental health illness.

  • Arrange for appropriate referrals and disposition for cases requiring a different level of care.

  • Provide other treatment related services and functions within a community policing model that including riding along with officers in the community, staffing calls to determine appropriate next steps, deescalating community members as appropriate, and offering collaborative follow-up practices.

  • Serve as liaison with personnel of probate court and other agencies to facilitate treatment and coordinate referrals of community members.

  • Maintain documentation of charts and other records in accordance with State, Federal, Local, OMH, WCMH, Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance, CARE, and MBPD.

  • A master’s degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field.

Additional Requirements:• Must be able to work efficiently and effectively within a flexible schedule.

  • Must be able to alternate between sitting and standing, with some travel requirements.

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Post hire, employee must:• Demonstrate knowledge of methods, principles, and best practices in clinical and crisis counseling services.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with law enforcement officials.

  • Have the ability to engage and build partnerships with key stakeholders and community partners to facilitate coordinated care.

  • Be able to make sound judgment and discretion in interpreting and applying established objectives during crisis situations.

  • Excellent skills in planning, coordinating, and managing complex assessments and treatment interventions within the community.

  • Ability to communicate effectively.
