Senior Manager, Application Development

Location: Fully Remote

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Application Development to lead the design and delivery of enterprise-scale applications, APIs, integrations, and cloud-based solutions for a large enterprise organization.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role, approximately 70% technical / 30% management, ideal for someone who can operate as both a solution architect/technical lead and an engineering manager. You'll provide technical direction, own solution design and architecture, drive projects through execution, and lead a team of engineers.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the architecture, design, and delivery of enterprise applications and modernization initiatives.

Provide hands-on technical leadership across Java, APIs, microservices, AWS, and AI-enabled solutions.

Develop high-level and low-level solution designs and ensure successful technical implementation.

Lead and mentor a team of approximately 5-7 engineering resources.

Drive projects and larger technical initiatives from design through production delivery.

Partner with product, architecture, engineering, and business stakeholders.

Lead development of cloud applications using modern AWS architecture patterns.

Drive adoption of microservices, event-driven architecture, reusable services, and API-first design.

Oversee enterprise API and integration design, development, security, and governance.

Support adoption of AI-assisted development tools and AI-powered applications/workflows.

Champion Agile, DevOps, DevSecOps, CI/CD, quality engineering, and observability best practices.

Required Qualifications

10+ years of progressive software engineering/application development experience.

5+ years of technical leadership and/or engineering management experience.

Strong hands-on architecture and solution design experience.

Strong development background with Java and Spring Boot.

Extensive experience with REST APIs, microservices, and enterprise integrations.

Strong experience designing and implementing cloud solutions on AWS.

Experience with event-driven and distributed application architectures.

Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases.

Ability to lead complex technical programs from architecture/design through execution.

Experience leading distributed engineering teams.

Strong understanding of Agile delivery and modern software engineering practices.

Exposure to AI-assisted software development, AI agents, or intelligent workflow automation.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience within a highly regulated enterprise environment.

Experience with healthcare-related technology or platforms is a plus.

Experience with AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, Amazon Q, or similar technologies.

Why This Opportunity?

Join a large enterprise technology organization investing in new software development, cloud modernization, APIs, microservices, and AI-enabled solutions. This position offers a combination of hands-on architecture, technical leadership, team management, and the opportunity to help shape modern enterprise applications.

What I intentionally removed/vagued out: the client/company names, specific business division and Medicare headquarters/company description, bill/pay rates, conversion salary, exclusivity, sub-vending details, background-check package name, interview logistics, and other internal staffing notes. I also changed the regulatory language so the posting doesn't unnecessarily point back to a specific healthcare organization.
