Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Accountant to support a government organization in Fort Myers, Florida. This Contract position is ideal for someone who is detail oriented and can quickly contribute to core accounting operations and provide dependable support during critical year-end activities. The role calls for strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently with minimal onboarding.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and post journal entries to maintain accurate and timely financial records.

• Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts, identifying and addressing variances promptly.

• Review general ledger transactions to ensure completeness, accuracy, and proper classification.

• Investigate account discrepancies and take appropriate action to resolve outstanding issues.

• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities as needed to maintain smooth daily operations.

• Assist with year-end closing tasks, including account analysis, documentation, and reporting support.

• Contribute to governmental accounting processes and help maintain compliance with applicable standards.

• Provide accounting support within Oracle Fusion or comparable financial systems when applicable. Requirements • Proven experience in accounting with the ability to manage routine and period-end responsibilities independently.

• Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliation procedures.

• Hands-on experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.

• Ability to research discrepancies, interpret financial activity, and resolve accounting issues accurately.

• Experience with bank reconciliations and review of financial records in a deadline-driven environment.

• Background in governmental accounting is highly preferred.

• Experience using Oracle Fusion is preferred.

• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to begin contributing with minimal training.
