Drafting Engineer / Architectural Millwork Drafter 📍 Elmhurst, IL (Onsite)

Position Overview: The Drafting Engineer will play a critical role in transforming architectural concepts into detailed production-ready drawings for custom commercial millwork projects. This position supports projects ranging from high-end tenant interiors and healthcare facilities to multifamily developments and large commercial environments. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with CAD software, reading architectural drawings, preparing submittals, and collaborating closely with production teams to ensure projects move efficiently from design through manufacturing.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed architectural millwork shop drawings and production drawings
  • Develop and process project submittals for client approval
  • Produce manufacturing-ready documentation and cut lists
  • Program CNC machinery and support production workflows
  • Create make-ready and assembly drawings
  • Perform material takeoffs and assist with project planning
  • Review architectural plans and specifications
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and project management teams
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting established turnaround schedules
  • Support commercial interior projects including healthcare, office, retail, multifamily, senior living, lobbies, breakrooms, and specialty architectural environments

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of professional drafting experience
  • Strong CAD experience
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and technical drawings
  • Experience producing submittals and detailed production drawings
  • Background in architectural millwork, cabinetry, woodworking, construction, architectural interiors, or a related industry
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor
  • Experience with Microvellum
  • CNC programming exposure
  • Material takeoff experience
  • Millwork engineering or project processing experience
  • Experience supporting custom commercial manufacturing environments

Compensation & Benefits:

  • $31-$40/hour
  • Approximate annual salary: $65,000-$80,000+
  • 5% performance-based bonus
