Job Duties

The City of Saint Paul's Department of Safety and Inspections is hiring an individual to perform full-performance inspections to ensure that sheet metal installations involving heating and ventilation are done according to approved plans and specifications and in accordance with pertinent portions of the Minnesota State Building Code.

Here's what you can expect to do:

Inspect and report on installations and alterations of sheet metal work to assure that approved materials are used, and proper workmanship is performed.

Order and enforce corrections on items that are not in compliance.

Witness tests of mechanical installations, equipment, and materials.

Interpret code to fit both typical and unusual situations.

Information Specific to this Position: The current vacancy is based in the Department of Safety and Inspections Office, 375 Jackson Street, Saint Paul, MN 55101. This position works Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm and conducts daily field inspections for residential and commercial properties located across the City of Saint Paul and is required to be on site every day.

Minimum Education Required

Position Requirements:

High School or Vocational School Diploma and possession of an official certificate evidencing the completion of an apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker, such as is issued by the State of Minnesota, and five years of experience as a journey-level sheet metal worker.

OR

High School or Vocational School Diploma and eleven years of experience in sheet metal work, at least seven years of which must have been as a journey-level sheet metal worker.

Must possess a Certificate of Competency issued by the City of Saint Paul or the City of Minneapolis as a journey-or master-level warm air and ventilation worker.

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.
