Description & Requirements
Bloomberg Media is looking for an editor to join our Markets Magazine team in New York or London. The editor will commission and edit distinctive finance-related stories and analysis to extend Markets Magazine’s coverage between issues and find new ways to bring Bloomberg’s market insights to our digital subscribers. The successful candidate will have a keen eye for consequential stories and ideas about markets and finance, as well as a knack for filtering signal from noise, explaining context and connections, and translating sophisticated financial ideas into clear, compelling prose. Markets Magazine's target audience includes finance professionals as well as sophisticated news consumers who want to understand how markets intersect with their lives and the way the world works. Markets Magazine is Bloomberg’s venue for deep analysis and narrative journalism about global finance. Along with Bloomberg Weekend, CityLab, Pursuits and The Mishal Husain Show, it’s part of Bloomberg Media’s Ideas & Culture group, which produces premium, idea-driven journalism that applies Bloomberg’s distinctive lens — global, analytical and forward-looking — to the forces shaping modern life. This role will report to the editor of Markets Magazine.
We’ll trust you to:
-
Develop new ways to deliver Bloomberg’s most relevant markets analysis to Bloomberg’s digital subscribers — an intelligent global audience that includes but isn’t limited to finance professionals — focusing on a weekly cadence to complement both the newsroom’s daily coverage and Markets Magazine’s print/digital editions
-
Write/edit a weekly email for Bloomberg subscribers, including both original and curated material
-
Commission, edit and occasionally write essays, profiles, book reviews and other idea-driven pieces about markets and finance for Bloomberg Weekend
-
Recruit contributors from within Bloomberg’s newsroom, coach reporters on writing for a broader audience, and build ongoing relationships through edits that elevate their work
-
Collaborate with graphics, audience and video teams to build Markets Magazine’s presence on Bloomberg’s video channels
-
Use the Bloomberg terminal and Bloomberg’s proprietary AI tools to uncover data and insights and develop novel ways of curating and delivering them
You’ll need to have:
-
8+ years of experience in financial journalism
-
Deep understanding of finance and markets, including familiarity with banking, investment management, stocks, bonds, real estate, private equity, credit, takeovers and mergers, energy and commodities, economics, trading, central banking, venture capital, and consumer finance.
-
Fluency in and intense curiosity about culture, public affairs and the wider world that is shaped by (and shapes) markets and finance.
-
Proven ability to translate sophisticated financial material into engaging and accessible language, without sacrificing accuracy or precision
-
Experience commissioning and editing enterprise journalism and compelling, accessible markets and economic analysis for an intelligent, global audience with high expectations
-
Fluency across digital formats, including newsletters, charts and other data visualizations, and short-form video
-
A strong understanding of how digital audiences are evolving, analytics and the digital subscription ecosystem
-
A track record of collaboration with newsroom and media platform teams
-
The ability to network and build relationships with reporters and editors across our large global newsroom, and among freelancers
-
Entrepreneurialism, flexibility and a willingness to pitch in to help colleagues
-
Familiarity with the Bloomberg terminal is a plus
