Full job description

Description We are looking for a Senior Accountant to support grant administration and financial oversight for a mission-driven non-profit organization in Brooklyn, New York. This role partners with finance and program leadership to manage government funding, maintain accurate accounting records, and help ensure resources are used in alignment with program goals. The position combines day-to-day accounting responsibilities with grant compliance, reporting, and budget support across multiple funding sources.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the financial review of grant and contract submissions, checking budgets, supporting schedules, and proposal materials for accuracy before filing.

  • Oversee post-award grant administration by tracking spending, reconciling activity, updating budgets when needed, and confirming compliance with funding terms.

  • Prepare program billings and reimbursement requests, ensuring costs are posted correctly in the general ledger and receivables are recorded in the proper accounting period.

  • Manage month-end accounting for assigned programs, including journal entries, accruals, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and supporting documentation.

  • Evaluate program expenses before payment to confirm they are properly authorized, correctly coded, adequately documented, and allowable under grant guidelines.

  • Produce financial and receivables reports for leadership, monitor outstanding balances, and follow up with funders regarding delayed collections or questioned costs.

  • Partner with leadership on monthly budget-to-actual reviews, answer questions related to funding rules and financial procedures, and clarify how staff activity aligns with grant support.

  • Assist with annual budgeting, audit preparation, and maintenance of complete contract files, while also supporting billing and accounting system improvement projects as needed. Requirements

  • Accounting Degree

  • 3+ years Grant Accounting/Analysis experience

  • NYC Passport experience
