Job Title: Sheetmetal Technician Job Description
Join a dedicated aviation maintenance team as a Sheetmetal Technician, focusing primarily on sheet metal modification, repair, and trim work on aircraft and related components. In this role, you perform drilling, riveting, and structural repairs while working from blueprints to ensure high-quality workmanship on a variety of airframes. Experience with King Air aircraft and modification environments is highly valued, as you contribute to safe, precise, and efficient aircraft maintenance operations.
Responsibilities

Perform sheet metal modification work on aircraft structures and parts, including trimming, fitting, and adjusting components to meet specifications.

Drill out fasteners and prepare surfaces for installation or repair, ensuring proper alignment and structural integrity.

Install and set rivets using appropriate tools and techniques, maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Carry out sheet metal repairs on airframes, including removal, repair, and replacement of damaged or worn components.

Perform countersinking and other precision metalworking tasks to ensure accurate fit and finish of parts.

Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documentation to plan and execute modification and repair work.

Work on aircraft in a repair or experimental line environment, following established procedures and industry best practices.

Handle composite and metal components during modification and repair, ensuring proper materials handling and workmanship.

Use personal tools and equipment safely and effectively to complete daily tasks.

Collaborate with other mechanics on the shop floor to coordinate work on multiple aircraft and meet project timelines.

Follow all safety guidelines, including wearing required personal protective equipment such as safety glasses when needed.

Maintain a clean and organized work area within the hangar and adhere to shop standards and processes.
Essential Skills
-
Proven sheet metal modification experience on aircraft structures, with at least 3 years of relevant hands-on work preferred.

Strong background in sheet metal repair, including drilling, riveting, countersinking, and trim work.

Ability to read, understand, and work from blueprints and technical drawings.

Experience working in a repair environment or on an experimental line in aviation.

Familiarity with airframe structures and components, including both metal and composite materials.

Competence in using common sheet metal tools and equipment safely and efficiently.

Ownership of a complete set of personal tools suitable for aircraft sheet metal work.

Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, structurally sound work.

Ability to work effectively on a busy shop floor alongside other mechanics.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience working on King Air aircraft is a strong plus.

Work Environment
This role is based in an FBO hangar environment in Newton, KS, working on the first shift from Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch break. The facility is non-climate controlled, so temperatures can vary with the seasons. The shop floor typically has around 12 mechanics and can accommodate 810 aircraft at a time, depending on aircraft size. Dress code is casual and practical, allowing jeans or shorts with a t-shirt; tank tops are not permitted. Safety glasses are required at times, depending on the task. The schedule is centered around a 40-hour week, with only limited overtime that may involve extending the shift or occasional Saturday work, providing a predictable and structured work environment.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
