Location: Geisinger Community Medical Center (GCMC) Shift: Rotation (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Worker Type: Regular Exemption Status: Yes Job Summary: Geisinger is seeking a General Surgeon to join our General Surgery team at Geisinger Community Medical Center (GCMC) in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
This opportunity is ideal for a surgeon who enjoys the breadth of general surgery and is looking to practice within an established health system while serving patients throughout northeastern Pennsylvania. The physician will join the GCMC General Surgery team under the leadership of Timothy Farrell, MD, Site Director at GCMC and Interim Department Chair of General Surgery. Job Duties: Position Highlights
- Practice the full scope of general surgery in a collaborative clinical environment
- Provide evaluation, diagnosis, operative treatment, and pre- and postoperative care for patients with a broad range of surgical conditions
- Work alongside surgical colleagues and multidisciplinary specialists within the Geisinger system
- Opportunity to build strong relationships with patients, referring providers, and colleagues throughout the Northeast region

Role and Responsibilities As a General Surgeon at Geisinger, you will provide comprehensive surgical care across the continuum, including:
- Evaluation and diagnosis of patients with general surgical conditions
- Preoperative assessment and surgical planning
- Operative management of appropriate general surgery cases
- Postoperative care and ongoing patient management
- Collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing teams, and other clinical specialists
- Coordination of care and referral to subspecialty colleagues when appropriate
- Participation in the continued growth and development of General Surgery services in northeastern Pennsylvania
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree
- Completion of an accredited General Surgery residency program
- Board certified or board eligible in General Surgery
- Eligible for medical licensure in Pennsylvania
- Commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care
- Strong communication and collaborative skills

Education: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine- (Required) Experience:
