Job Summary
Courtyard is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join the Payments team. You'll work across the whole stack on how money moves through Courtyard, on web and mobile. Payments and fraud are closely linked here, so you'll also work on the risk and fraud systems that decide which payments go through and help Courtyard expand into new markets and payment methods.
What You'll Own
-
Payments, end to end: Design, build and ship payment features across the whole stack, from the back-end services that move money to the checkout screens customers use on web and mobile. We're looking for a great full-stack engineer who is just as comfortable building polished React/Next.js interfaces and deploying to the mobile stores as working on APIs, data models and the integrations behind them.
-
Front-end contribution: Be a core contributor to checkout and payment screens: payment method selection, routing for 3D Secure challenges, error and decline handling, and conversion improvements.
-
Fraud and risk: Work on the fraud and risk systems behind payments, including real-time fraud scoring, risk rules, device signals and identity checks. Balance stopping fraud against letting good customers through.
-
Disputes and chargebacks: Help prevent, respond to and learn from disputes, including automating evidence and feeding outcomes back into fraud decisions.
-
Reliability: Make payment flows safe and observable: safe retries that never double-charge, webhook processing, monitoring, and careful feature-flagged rollouts.
-
Technical leadership: Lead design discussions, raise the code review bar and mentor other engineers, without owning a single layer of the stack.
What We're Looking For
-
8+ years of professional software engineering.
-
A strong full-stack engineer with real front-end depth: TypeScript and React in production, ideally with Next.js and mobile experience.
-
Solid back-end experience: designing APIs and services, relational databases, and running systems in the cloud.
-
Real payments experience: payment processor integrations, payment lifecycles, webhooks, refunds and disputes.
-
Experience building payment UIs with hosted fields and tokenization that keep card data out of your own code (PCI-compliant flows).
-
Experience with fraud prevention: risk rules, scoring, 3DS, device signals or identity checks.
-
Comfortable using data (SQL) to measure fraud, conversion, and monitor those perfect rollouts.
-
Bonus: alternative or digital payment methods, A/B testing and experimentation, marketplaces.
What You’ll Get In Return
-
A dynamic and engaging environment focused on fostering real growth and innovation.
-
Opportunities to create amazing products that our customers truly love and value.
-
Comprehensive health insurance packages with dependent coverage.
-
Competitive salary with ample opportunities for career advancement and development.
-
Enjoy the flexibility of a fully remote work environment.
-
401(k) plan with a 4% employer match to help you plan for the future.
-
$100 monthly dogfooding stipend to support trying out our products firsthand.
-
Access to employee wellness programs designed to support your overall well-being.
