Description

Leidos is seeking a motivated, analytical, and detail-oriented Program Finance Analyst to join our program finance team in Columbia, MD. This is a hybrid role that requires onsite support 3 days per week and offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career finance professional to develop technical expertise, strengthen business acumen, and grow into a trusted financial partner to program leadership.

The successful candidate will support financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and analysis while working closely with Program Managers, senior finance personnel, and cross-functional teams. We are looking for an individual who is eager to learn, takes initiative, enjoys solving problems, and demonstrates the potential to assume increasing levels of responsibility.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in financial analysis, a commitment to accuracy, and the curiosity to understand not only the financial results, but also the underlying business drivers that influence program performance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the financial management of assigned government programs, including monitoring costs, revenue, profitability, contract funding, and overall financial performance.

  • Assist in developing and maintaining program budgets, Estimates at Completion (EACs), and financial forecasts.

  • Analyze financial results against budgets and forecasts, identify variances, and help explain the underlying drivers of program performance.

  • Monitor contract funding, expenditures, and financial commitments to identify potential issues and support timely resolution.

  • Prepare and validate recurring financial reports, customer deliverables, and invoice supporting documentation, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission.

  • Support monthly financial close activities, including cost reviews, accruals, and financial reporting.

  • Analyze labor costs, staffing trends, subcontractor expenditures, and other program expenses to support financial planning and decision-making.

  • Partner with Program Managers and senior finance personnel to develop an understanding of program operations, financial objectives, and business challenges.

  • Collaborate with Contracts, Subcontracts, Accounting, Billing, and other functional teams to research and resolve financial discrepancies.

  • Support preparation of financial information for internal program reviews, leadership briefings, and customer meetings.

  • Maintain financial tracking tools and supporting documentation, identifying opportunities to improve accuracy and efficiency.

  • Proactively investigate financial questions, identify potential risks, and recommend solutions with appropriate guidance.

  • Develop a working knowledge of government contracting requirements, financial systems, and company financial processes.

  • Gradually assume greater ownership of financial analysis, reporting, and assigned program responsibilities as experience and capabilities develop.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field and 2+ years of prior relevant experience.

  • Prior experience should include financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, accounting, or a related financial function.

  • Active TS/SCI with Poly clearance is required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial information, identify discrepancies, and investigate underlying causes.

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information clearly.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and establish positive working relationships.

  • Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving ability, and willingness to learn new processes and systems.

  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while recognizing when additional guidance or collaboration is needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting program finance, project controls, or financial analysis in a government contracting environment.

  • Familiarity with government contract types, including Cost Plus Fixed Fee (CPFF), Time and Materials (T&M), and Firm Fixed Price (FFP).

  • Exposure to Estimates at Completion (EACs), financial forecasting, or program budgeting.

  • Understanding of contract funding, financial reporting, or government contracting requirements.

  • Experience with enterprise financial systems such as Costpoint, Oracle, or comparable applications.

  • Experience preparing customer financial reports, invoice supporting documentation, or other contractual financial deliverables.

  • Familiarity with Power BI or other financial reporting and data visualization tools.

Characteristics of a Successful Candidate

  • Initiative and Ownership: Takes responsibility for assigned work, follows through on commitments, and proactively identifies questions or potential issues.

  • Analytical Problem-Solving: Approaches challenges logically, investigates discrepancies, and develops thoughtful recommendations.

  • Attention to Detail: Recognizes the importance of accurate financial information and consistently produces reliable deliverables.

  • Effective Communication: Can translate financial information into clear, meaningful explanations for program personnel and stakeholders.

  • Collaboration and Relationship Building: Develops productive working relationships and demonstrates a customer-focused approach.

Professional Growth and Development

Working alongside experienced finance professionals, the selected candidate will have opportunities to:

  • Expand technical knowledge of program financial planning, forecasting, and analysis.

  • Strengthen analytical and problem-solving skills through increasingly complex assignments.

  • Build confidence in communicating financial results, risks, and recommendations to program leadership.

  • Assume greater responsibility for assigned program financial activities as proficiency develops.

  • Develop the business partnership and leadership skills needed for future progression into more independent Program Finance Analyst or Program Finance Lead roles.
