Full job description

Description

I'm hiring an SDE to help me modernize AAA services the team owns. You'll own a major part of what we run - designing, building, and operating the components and features. Concretely, that spans rebuilding a core security service on native AWS, tightening how access to our management network is governed, and hardening the environment engineers use to reach devices.

Key job responsibilities

  • Own major AAA component: Take a major part of what we run and own it from design through build and day-to-day operation

  • Invent and simplify: Bring ideas for making these systems better, safer, and simpler — spot the debt and risk worth paying down, propose the fix, and drive it. I'm not looking for someone who waits for a ticket.

  • Drive operational excellence: Share on-call, and raise the bar for how the team runs on-call — the culture, the tooling, the follow-through.

A day in the life

Daily standup, weekly Ops Review and Show & Tell. If you're oncall, you own the queue. If you're off-call you own your project delivery - this very likely requires producing a solution (or a feature) and then working with the Network Development Engineers, Data Center Operators or other stakeholders using our products to ensure it works as expected.

About the team

The team owns AAA (authentication, authorization, and accounting) for network device access, along with the management network and the access gateways (bastions) that provide that access. When an engineer needs to reach a network device, they come through our services and tools. Our job is to make sure it always work, it's fast and safe.

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
