Summary

About the Position: This position is located in the Defense Health Agency (DHA) in the Patient Administration Division at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center (DDEAMC) at Fort Gordon in Augusta, GA. Serves as the medical center's Privacy Officer, managing HIPAA compliance, guiding staff on protected health information, supervising personnel, developing privacy policies, and analyzing data to improve privacy practices and medical records administration. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Duties

  • Administer privacy compliance by monitoring adherence to laws and policies that protect patient health information.
  • Evaluate Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) practices by reviewing complaints, investigating potential violations, and preparing required reports.
  • Guide staff by providing expert advice on health information privacy and proper release of information.
  • Manage privacy procedures by developing, implementing, and updating policies that support safe handling of patient information.
  • Supervise personnel by assigning work, reviewing performance, and addressing training and development needs.
  • Resolve employee concerns by addressing complaints and coordinating with labor representatives when needed.
  • Develop medical records policies by drafting rules and procedures that support compliance with privacy requirements.
  • Analyze compliance data by collecting metrics, identifying trends, and creating reports for leadership review.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includesexperience applying privacy requirements to ensure proper handling of patient information in routine and complex situations; and reviewing privacy incidents to identify issues and recommend corrective actions that strengthen compliance; and developing privacy procedures to support consistent and accurate implementation of health information safeguards; and analyzing compliance data to identify trends that inform improvements to privacy practice. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration. MUST submit a copy of your transcript with your application package or you will be rated ineligible. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. MUST submit a copy of your transcript with your application package or you will be rated ineligible.
