Engineering Manager

Sigma Design is a product development, engineering, and manufacturing firm. Position Details:

  • The hiring range for this role is typically between $132,000 and $148,000 annually, with the full range extending to $165,000 annually, based on experience, internal equity, and career progression

  • This position will be In-Office

  • Monday - Friday, flexible hours

Primary Function:

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the technical execution of product development programs within a prototype and NPI environment. This role leads the Engineering organization and is accountable for engineering quality, technical decision-making, validation strategy, manufacturing readiness, and successful delivery of engineering milestones from concept through production transfer. The Engineering Manager serves as the primary technical authority and engineering representative to customer stakeholders.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities: Engineering Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop primarily Mechanical, Process, and Test Engineers.

  • Establish technical standards, engineering best practices, and development methodologies.

  • Drive technical excellence, innovation, and engineering accountability.

  • Manage engineering performance, development plans, and succession planning.

  • Build technical capabilities aligned to future customer and business needs.

  • Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences.

Product Development & Technical Execution

  • Own technical execution of product development and NPI programs.

  • Lead engineering activities from concept development through design verification and manufacturing readiness.

  • Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Test (DFT) initiatives.

  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet technical requirements, quality standards, and customer expectations.

  • Approve major technical design decisions and engineering change implementation.

  • Provide oversight of test system development, reliability testing, qualification testing, and engineering validation.

  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective action development.

  • Ensure product performance requirements are achieved before manufacturing release.

Technical Program Support

  • Develop engineering project plans, schedules, technical risk assessments, and mitigation strategies.

  • Utilize Jira and related tools to manage engineering deliverables and technical backlogs.

  • Support customer reviews, design reviews, milestone planning, and technical reporting.

  • Identify technical resource requirements necessary for successful program execution.

Customer Technical Leadership

  • Act as primary engineering interface for customer technical teams.

  • Present technical status, risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations.

  • Ensure alignment between engineering execution and customer expectations.

Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline (or equivalent) required

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience preferred

  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams

  • Experience with DFM, DFA, and DFT initiatives

  • Experience developing engineering project plans, schedules, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies

  • Experience with troubleshooting and root cause analysis of issues in complex electro-mechanical systems

  • Ability to work in a high pressure environment at a client site

  • Strong written and verbal English language communication skills

  • Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, both within and outside one's own work group

  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Sigma Design Core Values

  • Pass a post-offer background verification

Work Environment

Standard office environment with normal amounts of office related conditions. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients, or suppliers.
