What will you be doing in this role?

The Assistant Manager, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation is responsible for the daily operations, overall quality of services, and program development provided by staff assigned to specified program/service areas. Ensures that patient care is consistent with the Plan for Provision of Patient Care, The Nursing Standards of Care/Practice (if applicable), The Performance Improvement Plan, The Plan for Corporate Compliance, The Patient Education Plan and Professional Organization Standards. Provides care while maintaining safety of the environment, utilizing appropriate communication with sensitivity and attention to special patient populations of diverse cultural backgrounds, age, development issues and physical disabilities.

  • Manages daily operations including staff scheduling, patient scheduling, case management, utilization/resource review, equipment and supplies; identifies and resolves issues; and holds staff accountable for operational expectations to meet established productivity and financial targets.

  • Ensures compliance with service line, department, and hospital policies and procedures. Reviews staff documentation for quality, regulatory, and fiscal compliance; identifies deficiencies; and develops, implements, and follows up on action plans.

  • In collaboration with clinical leadership, ensures systematic measurement of staff clinical competence, including identification of training needs, ongoing treatment observation, coaching, and corrective action as needed. Ensures all clinical competencies are completed and documented within identified timeframes.

  • Coordinates orientation, in-services, and other training for service line staff. Develop or updates orientation materials for new or revised programs and communicate changes to team members in a timely manner.

  • Supervises staffing resources and collaborates with other assistant managers to meet department-wide staffing demands. Coordinates recruitment, interviews, and applicant follow-ups; maintains schedules to ensure a minimum of projected staffing for eight weeks; holds monthly staff meetings and disseminates minutes; anticipates staffing needs related to shortages, growth, and volume fluctuations; and maintains <10% overall staff turnover.

  • Manages staff projects, committee participation, and professional presentations while maintaining operational targets. Participates in special projects, committees, and programs.

  • Provides direct patient care based on area needs, including patient treatment, coaching, and mentoring of staff.

  • Prepares staff and areas for regulatory reviews and surveys (The Joint Commission, California Department of Public Health, Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities, etc.). Ensures compliance with hospital, departmental, and corporate requirements, including 100% completion of staff and human resource files, monthly documentation and tracer audits, and staff ability to comply with and speak to applicable regulations 95% of the time.

  • Assists with patient case conferences to promote optimal patient outcomes and team performance.

  • Ensures continuous improvement in clinical care, value, and patient experience for assigned areas through development and implementation of improvement monitors, facilitation of performance improvement teams, and establishment of action plans with the associate director and quality coordinator. Participate in the annual assessment of monitor appropriateness, effectiveness, and efficiency.

  • Utilizes knowledge of and completes responsibilities related to current reimbursement requirements specific to the practice setting.

  • Participates in and documents continuous learning and professional development.

  • Provides individualized, patient-centered care that respects personal, cultural, and spiritual beliefs and preferences; age-related cognitive and psychosocial needs; social support needs; gender, sexual orientation, and economic background.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree; graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology or Neuropsychology program.

  • Five (5) years clinical experience.

  • Two (2) years supervisory experience, preferred.

  • Physical Therapist license, Occupational Therapy license, Speech Language Pathology license, or Psychology California State license.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
