Senior Database Administrator

Job Summary:

Leads design, administration, tuning, security, backup, and optimization of enterprise database platforms, ensuring secure, high-performance operations across all phases of database management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer production and non-production database environments across relational platforms.

  • Perform SQL and index tuning, execution plan analysis, and workload optimization.

  • Design and maintain high availability and disaster recovery configurations.

  • Execute backup, recovery, patching, upgrade, and capacity planning activities.

  • Implement database security controls: access management, encryption, auditing, and masking.

  • Establish monitoring and alerting; respond to and resolve performance and availability incidents.

  • Support release activities including schema change management and data migrations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Minimum Experience: Five (5) to eight (8) years of database administration experience across enterprise relational platforms.

  • Certifications — Required: Platform database administration certification (e.g., Microsoft Certified Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional, or an equivalent PostgreSQL certification).

  • Certifications — Obtainable After Hire: Cloud database specialty certification aligned to the hosting environment, within 180 days of assignment.

  • Certifications — Preferred: AWS Certified Database - Specialty; CompTIA Security+; ITIL 4 Foundation.

  • Required Skills: SQL tuning; high availability and disaster recovery; performance optimization; monitoring; security controls; backup and recovery; schema and change management.

  • Preferred Skills: Cloud database services; automation and scripting; large transactional environments; federal sector experience.

Technical Environment

Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, PostgreSQL, and MySQL; Always On Availability Groups, Oracle Data Guard, and streaming replication; RMAN and pgBackRest; SSIS and native ETL utilities; Redgate, Liquibase, or Flyway schema change management; Amazon RDS and Azure SQL Managed Instance; Transparent Data Encryption and dynamic data masking; SolarWinds Database Performance Analyzer and native performance tooling; PowerShell and Python automation.
