Position Description:

Employees in this classification are responsible for providing professional nursing care in an assigned specialty or sub-specialty clinic. They perform a variety of general and specialized nursing duties as part of a total health care team to provide the patient with complete evaluations. Employees in this position generally assist the head nurse in the supervision of other clinic personnel and may substitute for this person in the event of his/her absence. May supervise and instruct subordinate nursing personnel. Receives supervision from head nurse or physician, functions independently within guidelines. May supervise ancillary nursing personnel in the performance of certain tasks, and assists in training personnel. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, and other clinic personnel and outside professionals.

Major/Essential Functions:

• Provides professional nursing services, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.

• Applies clinical knowledge, evidence-based practices, and nursing standards to deliver high-quality, age-appropriate care across outpatient clinical settings.

• Oversees day-to-day clinical operations to ensure efficient, effective, and high-quality patient care delivery.

• Coordinates care and services with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.

• Assesses and triages patients, including walk-in and urgent care needs.

• Provides professional nursing care utilizing all phases of the nursing process.

• Ensures adherence to clinical standards, nursing protocols, infection prevention practices, and patient safety guidelines.

• Evaluates and addresses patient concerns and service recovery opportunities.

• Supports patient and family education initiatives to promote positive health outcomes.

• Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential patient documentation and records.

• Oversees referrals, follow-up coordination, laboratory results, and clinical communications.

• Assists with medication management, supply monitoring, and maintenance of clinical inventory as applicable.

• Supports procedural and sedation services by preparing equipment, medications, and patients in accordance with clinical protocols.

• Performs clinical procedures within scope of practice, including wound care, splinting, immunizations, specimen collection, IV initiation, and related nursing interventions.

• Ensures clinic readiness for inspections, surveys, and accreditation reviews.

• Assures compliance with applicable regulatory, CMS, laboratory, and safety requirements.

• Remain current with all licensure, certifications, and mandatory compliance and training requirements for this position.

• Adhere to all policies, procedures, and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSCEP OPs, etc.).

• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Completion of a Board of Nursing accredited program of professional nursing or scheduled to complete a program of professional nursing within 120 days of applying for a position.

• Current Registered Nursing license in the state of Texas or the attainment of a temporary permit from the Board of Nursing to practice professional nursing pending full licensure in the state of Texas.

• New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX- RN) on the first attempt.

• No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Minimum of one year of leadership or supervisory experience in a clinical or ambulatory healthcare setting preferred.

• Strong background in outpatient clinic operations and patient care coordination preferred.

• Conscious SedationCertification preferred.

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred.
