What you will be doing: In this role, you will create visual content that makes information clear, engaging, and accessible.
- Design graphics, infographics, videos, and animations.
- Film and edit video, create motion graphics, and use design and editing software to produce finished materials.
- Organize and maintain visual assets so they remain current and accessible.
- Work with departments to align content with organizational branding and messaging and reach intended audiences.

The working environment you can expect: This Anchorage-based position is part of the Department’s centralized Communications team and currently works a hybrid schedule from home and an office setting, as appropriate. Because DOH is one of the State of Alaska’s largest and broadest departments, the daily environment is fast-paced, varied, challenging, and creative, requiring independent and collaborative work on both long-term projects and time-sensitive communications for audiences across the state.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or professional level experience in journalism, art, public relations, English, audio-visual arts, marketing, ad agency work, photography, or information work with emphasis on writing and motion picture-still photography, or a closely related field/industry.
Special Note: “Competencies” means a combination of interrelated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.
“Typically gained by” means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.
“Training” and “education” in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on-line, self-study, and on-the-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs.

Additional Required Information
At the time of the interview, please provide the following:
- Three (3) professional references whom we may contact by phone are required. One (1) of these references must be your current or most recent supervisor, if not already provided in the application.
- Three (3) work samples, demonstrating graphic design, video production, and publication layout. Please include at least one example of each (such as an infographic or campaign graphic, a finished video, and a brochure or report). For each sample, briefly identify your contribution and the software you used.
- A current resume.
- A copy of academic transcripts (unofficial is okay; please ensure that the institution name/URL is listed on the transcripts) is used to support that you meet the minimum qualifications competencies.
