Full job description

Join Cleveland Clinic's Martin North Hospital where research and surgery are advanced, technology is leading-edge, patient care is world-class, and caregivers are family. This downtown Stuart hospital provides top-quality patient care to the communities in and around Martin County on the beautiful St. Lucie River. The caregivers at Martin North Hospital have made it an excellent medical facility and a home away from home.

Cleveland Clinic's School of Pharmacy Technology offers one of the few accredited, hospital-based Pharmacy Technician programs in the United States. As a Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will train under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, following established policies and procedures to support essential pharmacy operations. Through this apprenticeship, you'll gain hands-on experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, developing skills in medication preparation, packaging, distribution, inventory control, customer service, and recordkeeping. Upon completion, graduates earn a diploma in Pharmacy Technology and are fully prepared to take the national certification exam.

A caregiver in this role can ideally work full time during the summer months and then as able to during the holidays. Must be able to work at least 4 shifts per month while in school. Would need to be able to train for at least 90 days.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Refill, load, and maintain the inventory of automated medications. Admixes intravenous medications.

  • Purchase and receive medications. Unit doses medications.

  • Charge and credit medications when necessary.

  • Perform unit inspections.

  • Comply with daily task requirements as outlined by the shift.

  • Assist the pharmacists with assigned clinical review of patient's medical records.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor's or pre-pharmacy Associate's degree.

  • Active Florida Pharmacy Intern License (PH/INT-FL).

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Hospital experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires frequent walking from department to department. Requires sitting at a workstation or desk.

  • Requires standing.

  • Requires occasional pushing and/or pulling, lifting, and carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds, such as IV fluids, files, documents and computer printouts.

  • Requires finger dexterity and eye hand coordination to operate a computer keyboard at a moderate skill level.

  • Requires working at a fast pace to prioritize multiple assignments/projects.

  • Responds to numerous requests.

  • Requires the ability to resolve conflicts among staff.

  • Requires to work collaboratively with the department director, pharmacy staff, physicians and other members of the Healthcare team.

  • Requires the ability to ensure operational efficiency.

  • Requires the ability to problem solve and make decisions.

  • Requires the ability to exercise self-control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
