Full job description

You will investigate employer compliance with the SC Workers’ Compensation Act.

You will research and respond to inquiries from the public and internal staff on workers’ compensation insurance coverage and compliance issues.

You will research and investigate workers’ compensation insurance coverage on potential violations of the SC Workers’ Compensation Act.

You will analyze information obtained during research and investigation to determine appropriate course of action for bringing violators into compliance.

You will assist legal counsel with prosecuting employers who are in violation of the SC Workers’ Compensation Act by documenting evidence and testifying at SC Workers’ Compensation Commission hearings.

You will communicate with employers, insurance agents and insurance carriers to gain accurate and meaningful workers’ compensation insurance coverage information.

You will document all cases with evidence obtained, to include notes from phone interviews and email correspondence.

You will learn and apply South Carolina workers’ compensation laws to various compliance issues, as well as enforcing compliance with the SC Workers’ Compensation Act through the assessment and collection of fines and penalties.

Bachelor's degree and relevant experience OR equivalent workers' compensation work experience in lieu of or in conjunction with education requirement.

Critical thinking skills with the ability to learn and apply SC Workers’ Compensation laws and regulations.

Strong computer skills with the ability to learn the Workers’ Compensation technology system.

Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively.
-
Ability to communicate effectively.
-
Ability to plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion.

Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, and procedures and organizational functions.
-
Knowledge of applicable terminology and research practices.

Prior work experience in the workers' compensation field.
