About Northstar (Powered by Nayya)
Northstar is a leading US & Global financial wellness benefit that provides personalized guidance to support every employee on their unique financial journey. We partner with employers to reach employees at the start of their relationship with money, their paycheck, combining 1-on-1 advice from CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professionals with easy-to-use tools and education.
In 2025, Northstar was acquired by Nayya to build a unified health and wealth experience, combining Nayya's AI-driven guidance with Northstar's financial planning capabilities and planner team. Together, we're making benefits simpler, more personalized, and more actionable for employees year-round.
Financial Planner, Global Overview:
The Financial Planning team delivers 1-on-1 advice that helps employees make confident financial decisions across core planning topics and workplace benefits.
We're hiring a Financial Planner to join our team of CFP® professionals, working directly with Northstar members (employees of our employer clients) to provide client-first financial guidance via text-based chat and video calls. We're most importantly looking for someone who is excited about our vision and mission—we're redefining how financial wellness works and are passionate about making real financial planning accessible to everyone.
In this role, you will:
-
Partner with Northstar Planning Leadership to build out the country-specific advice strategy and launch Northstar in Costa Rica
-
Build customized financial plans and provide actionable guidance to improve members' financial health
-
Provide education that empowers members to maximize their employer benefits within your country
-
Support members and build trusting relationships over a text-based interface, phone, and video calls
-
Consult with various members of the Northstar team as a subject-matter expert on financial planning matters
You should have:
-
An internationally recognized financial planning or advisory designation, such as CFA, CFP (issued by CFP Board or an FPSB affiliate), ChFC, or an equivalent CISI qualification. Active local licensing or accreditation that reflects current, hands-on practice, such as an agente de bolsa credential (Bolsa Nacional de Valores / SUGEVAL) or an insurance intermediary license (SUGESE), is a strong plus. This is an advice-only role with no product sales or trading.
-
Fluent English and Spanish - written and spoken
-
Experience in multiple areas of personal Finance: Retirement, Equity Compensation, investments, budgeting, debt management, cash flow planning, digital currencies, estate planning, insurance and more
-
Experience using financial planning software, adaptability to Northstar proprietary software, and proficiency performing custom spreadsheet analyses
-
A track record of providing client-first, comprehensive financial plans to customers in all life stages and from all walks of life in a fiduciary capacity
-
Strong qualities of empathy, kindness, and emotional intelligence. You know when to take a quantitative logical approach and when to take an emotional approach.
-
A high level of agency in a remote startup environment, and a bias toward action.
-
Excellent writing skills and communication skills.
-
The availability to work directly with your assigned Northstar members for at least 10 hours a week.
Why you might be excited about us:
-
We're mission-driven. We believe every person deserves objective, personalized, and affordable financial guidance—we don't make money from referral fees and are fully aligned with the people we serve
-
You'll do "real" financial planning centered around the needs of the employee—no business development, no investment trading.
-
You'll be at the forefront of how financial planning evolves, working at the intersection of 1-on-1 advice and AI-driven guidance across the globe
-
Excited to expand your knowledge on cross border financial advising and collaborate with a team of other global advisors
-
We have passionate, paying customers and are scaling quickly.
-
