Full job description
HPC-Industrial, powered by Clean Harbors, is looking for a Specialty Technician to work at our Long Beach, CA. to join their safety conscious team! This team member is responsible for the Vapor control operators operating thermal oxidizers, vapor combustors, and carbon vapor control systems. Successful operators are team oriented, and highly motivated. Operators receive on the job training as needed to ensure they can safely and effectively operate and maintain vapor control equipment.

Responsibilities
-
Maintain and calibrate analyzers. Maintain clear and concise logs of all maintenance and calibrations.
-
Move and set up equipment at job sites.
-
Monitor emissions from frac tanks and other refinery equipment under HPC Industrial care.
-
Review all applicable paperwork ensuring proper completion.
-
Track carbon change outs and usage and manage liquid media on site.
-
Ability to operate HPC vehicles and equipment
-
Inspects equipment and general work area prior to starting any job. Corrects deficiencies that may cause accidents, injuries, lost productivity or harm to equipment or that are inconsistent with client’s requirements.

Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment when required.
-
Completes all appropriate paperwork.
-
Trains Technicians and Operators on-the-job in equipment operation, service line processes and necessary paperwork.
-
Operates all necessary equipment in the vapor control service line in accordance with operation training and safety procedures.
-
Estimated 70% out of town travel required. Project durations 1 to 3 weeks (but not limited to).

Utilization of the Safety 3-6-5 Safety System in all aspects of operations.

Follow all DOT guidelines for hours of service.
-
Maintain logs without error.
-
Employee is on time and prepared for work.
-
Maintain compliant calibration records.
-
Paperwork and MSS form feedback is quick and efficient.
-
Employee responds with a sense of urgency to instructions.
What does it take to work for HPC-Industrial?
MUST Have Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) prior to interviewing and hiring
- Must have a valid state issued driving license and have clean driving record and reliable transportation for local work (60-mile radius)
Must be able to show up on time and prepared for work

Possess BASIC Safety Council Reciprocal Card (not required, but preferred)

Possess all required I-9 documentation
JOB RELATED EXPERIENCE:
-
Minimum 1 year of plant work experience (not required, but preferred)
-
Minimum 1 year experience operating thermal oxidizers and/or liquid scrubbers (not required, but preferred)
DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES FOR TANK CLEANING/ OPERATIONS & WASTE HANDLING
-
Setup, operate, and maintain industrial pumps, high-pressure water hydroblasters, explosion-proof blowers, vacuum trucks, and non-sparking tools.
-
Perform mechanical isolation by installing line blinds/pancakes and disconnecting product lines.
-
Remove sludge, chemical scale, bottoms, and liquid waste from tank interiors, wall plates, sumps, and internal floating roofs.
-
Stage, label, and transfer hazardous/non-hazardous waste into designated vacuum trailers, roll-off boxes, or drums according to environmental regulations.
-
Equipment Maintenance & Inspection Prep
-
Clean tank surfaces to meet specific quality criteria (e.g., hot-work ready, product-change clean, or API 653 structural inspection ready).
-
Inspect hoses, fittings, grounding/bonding cables, and ventilation equipment prior to daily shift deployment.

Qualifications & Requirements
-
Credentials: Valid Driver's License; TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) required for port/marine refineries.
-
Certifications (Preferred/Required): 40-Hour HAZWOPER, OSHA 10/30, Confined Space Entry/Rescue certification.
-
Physical Demands:
-
Ability to lift/carry 50+ lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding, and bend or crawl through tight manways (typically 18"–24" openings).
-
Must pass a medical evaluation and Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) to wear tight-fitting respirators.
-
Comfort working outdoors in extreme temperatures, high-noise environments, and tight confined spaces.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
-
On Call 24/7, ability to report to work within 1 hour of notification
-
Ability to work various shifts as needed.
-
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
