Enterprise Software Packaging & Endpoint Management Engineer (Software Developer IV)

Location: Fairmont, WV, On-Site Required

The AEGIS contract has an immediate need for a Software Developer IV at NASA's Katherine Johnson IV&V in Fairmont, WV.

Primary Responsibilities

Software Packaging and Deployment

  • Support and maintain over 100+ software applications deployed on IV&V workstations and VDI.

  • Create, modify, and optimize MSI packages and MST transforms from vendor setups or legacy installations.

  • Convert standard .exe setups or legacy installations into clean, silent-install MSI packages using capture tools such as Repackager.

  • Develop custom actions using PowerShell and VBScript to handle complex configurations and registry adjustments during installation.

  • Debug installation errors, analyze log files, resolve file/registry conflicts, and test packages on clean virtual machines.

  • Edit and validate MSI databases at the table level using tools like AdminStudio to eliminate Internal Consistency Errors (ICEs).

KACE SMA Administration

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations, updates, and maintenance of the virtual and physical KACE SMA appliances.

  • Manage the deployment, troubleshooting, and lifecycle of the KACE Agent across IV&V network-connected devices.

  • Package, test, and remotely deploy applications and scripts (KScripts, PowerShell, VBScript, or Shell); design execution logic involving "Verify" and "Remediation" parameters to automatically resolve endpoint compliance issues.

  • Implement discovery scans to inventory all hardware, network peripherals, and software assets; leverage the software catalog to track application usage, reconcile software licenses, and generate compliance audits.

  • Build and manage Smart Labels using advanced filtering and LDAP queries to target specific user groups, offices, or device types for updates.

  • Design custom SQL and wizard-generated reports to present hardware lifecycles, patch levels, and software compliance metrics.

  • Configure, maintain, and optimize the built-in KACE Service Desk ticketing workflows, queues, and knowledge bases.

BigFix Administration

  • Maintain the BigFix architecture, including core servers, relays, and database components.

  • Monitor system health and optimize relay hierarchies for efficient bandwidth utilization.

  • Troubleshoot agent connectivity and promptly resolve deployment failures.

  • Develop and test Fixlets and tasks for custom software deployments.

  • Manage third-party application updates to minimize security vulnerabilities.

  • Generate comprehensive compliance reports for leadership and audit teams.

SharePoint and Workflow Administration

  • Manage the IT Services SharePoint site, document libraries, lists, metadata columns, and unique item-level permissions.

  • Manage Power Automate workflows for internal IT processes.

  • Connect SharePoint and Power Automate with Power Apps and external REST APIs.

  • Monitor flow run histories and resolve integration errors.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Monitor NASA Security Operations Center (SOC) Mitigation Action Requirement (MAR) announcements and mitigate vulnerabilities as mandated by the Agency.

  • Perform daily system and patch compliance checks to ensure IV&V systems are up to date on critical security patches.

  • Attend bi-weekly CSET BigFix meetings to stay briefed on upcoming changes.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of dedicated experience in Windows application packaging and software distribution.

  • Proficiency with Flexera AdminStudio.

  • 3+ Experience of PowerShell and VBScript.

  • 3+ years of experience in web application development and maintenance.

  • 3+ years of experience creating and maintaining Power Automate workflows.

  • Deep administrative understanding of Windows Server/Client platforms, Active Directory/GPOs, and core network configurations (DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP).

  • Highly proficient in writing scripts using PowerShell, VBScript, or Bash to support custom KScripts within KACE.

  • 3+ years of direct, hands-on administration experience working within the Quest KACE SMA (K1000) Administrator Console, alongside experience in BigFix administration.

  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills, excellent cross-departmental communication, and a disciplined approach to Change Management.

  • Proficient in writing custom Relevance queries for targeting and filtering.

  • Experienced in creating BigFix Action Scripts for automation and configuration.

  • Basic knowledge of MS SQL Server administration related to BigFix.

  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize individual and team workloads independently.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across all organizational levels.

  • Excellent customer service, oral communication, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced expertise utilizing AdminStudio for complex application packaging.

  • Hands-on experience optimizing Quest KACE SMA and HCL BigFix environments at an enterprise level.

  • Proven track record of troubleshooting intricate application errors within legacy and modern Windows environments.

  • Hands-on experience configuring SharePoint Online and Microsoft Power Automate

  • Excellent technical documentation skills.
