Full job description

Under general supervision, is responsible for conducting inspections of plumbing installations, construction, maintenance, and repair work for conformance with governing codes, requirements, and relevant ordinances; performs related duties as required. (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)

Conducts inspections of the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing lines, fixtures, vents, stacks and related appurtenances for conformance with governing codes, requirements and relevant ordinances;

Inspects and checks plumbing installations to verify that materials used were of the proper size, length, quality and grade and in conformance with governing codes, requirements and relevant ordinances;

Inspects plumbing installations immediately outside of buildings walls to the base of the stack and through the roof to determine conformance with governing codes, requirements and relevant ordinances;

Inspects new plumbing installation, work-in-progress and existing plumbing to ensure that the methods and techniques used comply with approved plans, governing codes and relevant ordinances;

Inspects and checks potable water installations, hot water tank installations, and backflow devices to ensure compliance with governing codes, requirements and relevant ordinances;

Assists and cooperates with Public Health agencies, Environmental Protection Agencies and other governmental agencies as warranted by reporting evidence of unsanitary conditions and environmental hazards;

Reviews plumbing work in the field with approved plans for conformance with plumbing code requirements, standards, and relevant ordinances; checks plumbing installation and maintenance work to ensure that proper permits were issued;

Inspects and investigates complaints of improper plumbing installation, maintenance and repair work performed and reports findings to supervisor or the appropriate personnel;

Interprets, responds and provides information to architects, engineers, contractors and property owners concerning compliance and conformance with applicable plumbing code requirements, standards and relevant ordinances;

Notifies contractors, property owners, architects and other applicable personnel of defective or substandard work performed by issuing notices of violation;

Takes photographs during inspections to document observed violations, improper work, and work done without permits; downloads photographs into shared files for use in enforcement actions;

Attends training sessions or classes in order to maintain valid certifications and keep abreast of current trends in materials and procedures in the plumbing industry;

Operates City vehicle to conduct City business;

May review and approve construction documents related to plumbing systems for compliance with governing codes, requirements, and relevant ordinances;

May conduct research to investigate expired permits, update computer records and prepare notices of expired permits to contractors and/or property owners;

May give testimony in court. Possession of a valid State of Ohio certification as a Level Three (3) Plumbing Inspector Specializationissued by the State of Ohio Board of Building Standards. Substitution(s): A valid State of Ohio certification as a Level Two (2) Residential Code Official Commercial Trainee issued by the State of Ohio Board of Building Standards AND five (5) years of skilled trades work experience or two (2) years of work experience as a certified Level Two (2) Residential Code Official Commercial Trainee may substitute for the above referenced certification. When a valid State of Ohio certification as a Level Two (2) Residential Code Official Commercial Trainee with work experience is substituted, a valid State of Ohio certification as a Level Three (3) Plumbing Inspector Specialization must be obtained by the completion of the probationary period.

Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Some positions may require possession of a valid State of Ohio certification as a Level Three (3) Plumbing Plans Examiner Specialization in order to review and approve construction documents related to plumbing systems.

OR

Possession of a valid State of Ohio certification as a Plumbing Inspector. Substitution(s): A letter of interim approval as a Plumbing Inspector from the State of Ohio may substitute for the above referenced certifications. When the letter of interim approval is substituted, a valid State of Ohio certification as a Plumbing Inspector must be obtained by the end of the probationary period.

Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Some positions may require possession of a valid State of Ohio certification as a Plumbing Plans Examiner in order to review and approve construction documents related to plumbing systems. Recruitment #: 26-1775-V1 Employment Type: Full-Time (Regular)
