Job Title: Hazardous Materials Inventory Associate (Part-Time)Job Description

We are seeking a Part-Time Hazardous Waste Specialist to support an environmental testing laboratory. This individual will ensure compliance with hazardous waste regulations and address findings from a recent regulatory audit. The position offers flexibility, either as a short-term project or an ongoing part-time engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage hazardous waste inventory, storage, and documentation for laboratory operations.

  • Perform weekly inspections of satellite hazardous waste accumulation areas.

  • Support onsite and offsite hazardous waste storage activities.

  • Classify expired chemicals for monthly lab packing and disposal activities.

  • Manage and monitor chemical neutralization stations.

  • Ensure all required hazardous waste records and regulatory documentation are maintained accurately.

  • Review, update, and improve SOPs, work instructions, and supporting compliance documentation.

  • Assist with corrective actions related to regulatory audit findings.

  • Troubleshoot hazardous waste handling and compliance issues.

  • Partner with laboratory, quality, and operations personnel to maintain safe waste management practices.

  • Follow established safety procedures and chemical handling protocols.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with hazardous waste management in a laboratory, environmental, chemical, manufacturing, or related setting.

  • Current or previous HAZWOPER training preferred.

  • Knowledge of hazardous waste regulations and compliance requirements.

  • Experience performing inspections, maintaining waste inventories, and managing documentation.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs.

  • Safe chemical handling experience.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with hazardous materials handling, chemical inventory, and regulatory documentation.

  • Familiarity with EHS, environmental health and safety, laboratory operations, chemical classifications, MSDS, SOP, safety, chemical storage, RCRA, EPA compliance, and EPA methods.

Work Environment

The role is based in an environmental testing laboratory, offering a part-time opportunity averaging 16-24 hours per week. The position is flexible, allowing for a project-based or long-term engagement. There is potential for additional laboratory support work as business needs require, including glass wash and cross-training activities. The laboratory is a stable, long-standing environmental lab with satellite offices throughout the state.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Santa Paula, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
