Montage International (MI) seeks to collaborate with our owner, investor, and design partners to deliver exceptional properties that continue to build on our artistic collection of distinctive luxury hotels, resorts, and residences. The Design and Development Services (DDS) team guides the creation and thoughtful positioning of memorable and unique design solutions that reflect the Montage and Pendry brand philosophies and exceed our guests’ and residents’ expectations. The DDS team provides the knowledge and resources to ensure the unique requirements and operational relationships in front-of-house and back-of-house areas of each property are optimized, and all our hotel, resort, and residential properties conform to MI’s uniformly high standards.

The Vice President, Development Services, Capex and Design Execution (VP, DS) leads capital planning, FF&E strategy, and hotel opening support across Montage International’s portfolio, partnering with property leadership and Ownership and Corporate Operations on asset investment. The VP, DS also serves as the Company’s FF&E subject matter expert and provides hands-on field design leadership during new hotel openings. As a senior member of the Design and Development Services team, the VP, DS brings strong communication, sound judgment, and disciplined process to each project, working closely with Development leadership and the MI Operations team.

Your Leadership

Job duties include and are not limited to:

  • Direct the DDS Capex resources guiding capital improvement and renovation planning throughout each property’s lifecycle, supporting Owners, operating hotels, and residential properties in identifying areas of opportunity for renovation and investment. This successfully maintains the positioning of each asset, and adherence to brand guidelines.

  • Engage directly with MI Corporate Operations, Property Leadership Teams and Ownership to build a proactive, asset protection focused capital planning process.

  • Provide executive oversight of the annual capital budget process and long-term portfolio capital planning, reviewing scopes, budgets, and schedules developed by the Senior Director, and stepping in on strategic decisions, escalations, and complex owner relationships as needed.

  • Collaborate with MI Corporate Design to ensure projects transition successfully through the design process.

  • Build partnerships with Ownership and property teams through transparent communication and strategic guidance on capital investments, navigating operational and financial priorities to protect the long-term quality of each asset.

  • Serve as Montage International’s subject matter expert for Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment (FF&E) throughout development, hotel opening, and lifecycle asset management.

  • Direct the development of FF&E Standards and oversee their implementation across the pipeline and portfolio, including review of design documentation, specifications, material selections, shop drawings, and product substitutions to ensure consistency with approved design intent.

  • Review, validate, and monitor FF&E/OS&E budgets through all stages of design, providing initial cost estimates as needed, tracking budgets against actuals, and guiding value engineering decisions in collaboration with owners, consultants, and project managers.

  • Evaluate and guide procurement strategy in collaboration with our partners, including owner-appointed procurement agents and third-party or in-house procurement services, and vendor pricing negotiations, to ensure the best value, quality, schedule, and logistics without compromising design intent.

  • Conduct factory visits, prototype reviews, and quality inspections for custom furnishings as needed. Partner with interior design teams and procurement consultants to resolve fabrication, installation, and quality issues, and providing executive recommendations on FF&E acceptance and corrective action.

  • Support field execution of design from DD/construction documentation completion through hotel opening, partnering with the assigned DDS Director and Development design leadership.

  • Serve as a key on-site member of the DDS team during hotel openings, coordinating with colleagues responsible for commissioning, punch list completion, FF&E installation, and systems testing. This includes partnering with the design management team to resolve field issues and design decisions that could affect schedule or operational readiness.

  • Help safeguard approved design intent, construction quality, brand standards, and operational requirements through commissioning and opening, in coordination with the SVP, Development Services.

  • Provide direct, hands-on support across multiple concurrent hotel openings, prioritizing field engagement based on project complexity, risk, and opening schedules, and stepping in to help with day-to-day coordination and administration as needed.

  • Help ensure open, collaborative communication between Montage International Operations, DDS, and Ownership throughout the opening process, supporting the SVP, Development Services in escalating and resolving issues that require broader alignment.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Must Haves

  • Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Product Design, Interior Design, Business Administration/Marketing, Hospitality Management or related field required.

  • 10+ years relevant work experience required in the luxury hospitality field, with a focus on design and FF&E.

  • Extensive knowledge of both domestic and international hospitality projects including new construction, expansions, renovations, capital planning and rebranding.

  • Experience managing multiple complicated projects simultaneously in a complex, service-intensive, deadline driven environment.

  • Excellent general knowledge of construction materials and methods and specific knowledge pertaining to the design & construction of luxury hotels.

  • Motivated self-starter with a high level of personal integrity and business ethics.

  • Proactive team leader skilled at facilitating the review/feedback process of design documents across all design disciplines, ensuring seamless coordination and flawless execution.

  • Exceptional network of national and international vendors, distributors and manufacturers relating to Architecture, FF&E and OS&E products.

  • Proven ability to read full drawings sets and specifications produced by Architects, interior Designers, and other design team disciplines, including coordination / interdependencies between all design functions.

  • Excellent attention to detail, with an eye for luxury product and guest experience, and an ability to value engineer without compromising design intent or quality.

  • Exemplary leadership abilities to successfully align and integrate development partners, owners, design and architecture teams, development services, Operations, and your own team, fostering a collaborative environment to achieve common goals.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills, fostering clear and concise exchanges with team members, stakeholders, and vendors; strong organizational and time management skills, thriving in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, cross-functional environment.

  • Persuasive and diplomatic: skilled at securing buy-in from senior-level stakeholders, negotiating and settling differences, and remaining direct and forceful when needed while staying respectful of relationships.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Bluebeam, Procore, and PlanGrid preferred; AutoCad would be an asset. Desire to learn new technologies, including AI tools.

  • Strong interest in design trends and luxury hospitality and residential design.

  • Ability to mentor and be an effective motivator of other team members.

  • Disciplined adherence to schedules and consistent performance on deliverables.

  • Ability to travel 25% - 75% at times depending on location and intensity of projects.
