Are you an enthusiastic scientist with experience in Spectroscopy? Are you curious and engaged, able to solve problems with existing approaches, but creative enough to explore new ways for the "unsolvable" ones? If so, this may be an exciting opportunity to join HORIBA's Raman Group as an Applications Scientist as we continue to grow our team and our business.

In this role, the Raman Applications Scientist will work closely with customers to demonstrate HORIBA's Raman products and applications solutions to satisfy their analytical needs. You must be curious enough to fully understand a customer's application and their analytical need, creative enough to propose effective solutions, and have the scientific experience to validate and demonstrate their feasibility. As part of the Raman applications team, you will contribute to both applications development and new product development initiatives. You will be expected to travel, visiting customers for product demonstrations and training, as well as to deliver seminars at scientific conferences.

This position is based at the HORIBA New Jersey Optical Spectroscopy Center in Piscataway, NJ.

Responsibilities:

Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support for HORIBA Raman products

Support Sales and Service teams in interactions with prospects and existing customers

Perform measurements on prospect samples and prepare analysis reports

Conduct product demonstrations and customer training at HORIBA facilities and in the field

Develop applications for non-routine measurements in support of customers, new products, and business development initiatives

Design experiments to test hypotheses or demonstrate the feasibility of a new application, or provide proof of concept to a customer

Create supporting documents such as application notes, technical notes, training material, and support creation of new marketing material.

Deliver in-person and virtual presentations (e.g., webinars) at scientific conferences, sales meetings, and customer events

Provide technical support at trade shows and industry events

Identify, explore, and develop new applications for HORIBA Raman instruments

Skills/Experience Required:

Research background with demonstrated ability to develop sound experimental methods and test hypotheses using appropriate analytical techniques

Strong expertise in Spectroscopy; experience with Raman spectroscopy is strongly preferred (expertise in microscopy, optics, or analytical instruments like Fluorescence, confocal microscopy, AFM, SEM, TEM, or FTIR is also valuable)

Extensive experience in analytical data analysis and interpretation (i.e., coupling analytical instrumentation with data analysis to derive answers)

Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%, including international travel

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.

Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills

Strong analytical thinking skills

M.S. or PHD in chemistry, analytical chemistry, biophysics, materials sciences/engineering, or a related scientific field
