This teaching-track faculty member will support the Department of Performance, Production, and Community (PPC) in its ongoing commitment to academic excellence. Reporting to the PPC Program Director, the Chair of the Division of the Arts, and the Dean of Faculty, this individual will play an integral role in the vibrant and collaborative faculty and staff community at Hamline. The successful candidate will teach courses in theatrical design, manage budgets, lead a team of students to build sets and hang and focus lighting instruments in collaboration with a scene shop supervisor, design for two shows a year, and train and mentor students and student employees. This individual will also coordinate with guest teaching artists. The position collaborates extensively with faculty and staff throughout the Department of Performance, Production, and Community as well as the other programs that make up the Division of the Arts (Music Production, Digital and Studio Arts).
The ideal candidate will be:

Adept at managing spaces and supervising the technical implementation of scenic and lighting designs.

Skilled in the use of technology as it pertains to theatre/performance and instruction of undergraduates
-
Successful at creating culturally responsive environments and classes, using inclusive practices, and planning
-
Highly collaborative, willing and eager to be part of a small department
-
Eager to work and collaborate across disciplinary boundaries with faculty colleagues in the University’s Division of the Arts
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Contribute designs (scenic, lighting, sound, digital projection) for two shows a year
-
Serve as the production manager for season of four shows - managing calendars, budgets, and builds
-
Teach at least one four-credit class a year within the program
-
Maintain the Anne Simley Theatre, making requests for capital budgetary needs when necessary
-
Hire, train and mentor student workers in scene shop/light shop/sound/digital media/box office as well as students interested in pursuing design projects
-
Recruit, support, and retain students from diverse backgrounds
-
Lead a team of students to build sets, hang lights, etc. in collaboration with a scene shop supervisor.

Work with guest artists and guest designers

Collaborate with the Program Director in matters pertaining to academic affairs and maintain curricular integrity at the program level

Collaborate with other departments across Hamline on innovative approaches to strengthen the programs
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
MFA in theatre design and technology
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Honed design aesthetic and avid drive to lead majors and non-majors in developing and realizing innovative, thoughtful, or vivid stage designs

Dedicated interest in production management skills
-
Interest in developing projection design in practice and pedagogy

Investment and willingness to contribute to our commitment to study and practice theatre with and for community
