Full job description
The mission of the USC Rossier School of Education is to prepare leaders to achieve educational equity through practice, research and policy. We work to improve learning opportunities and outcomes in urban settings and to address disparities that affect historically marginalized groups. We teach our students to value and respect the cultural context of the communities in which they work and to interrogate the systems of power that shape policies and practices. Through innovative thinking and research, we strive to solve the most in‐tractable educational problems.
Adjunct Faculty: USC reserves the “Adjunct Faculty” appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time at USC, who are employed full-time in a primary profession or career else‐where. Adjunct faculty may teach one class each semester (summer, fall and spring).
The course explores the concept of professional capital in a professional context, focusing on three key dimensions: human capital, relation (social) capital, and decisional capital. Through an interdisciplinary approach, candidates will gain a comprehensive understanding of how these forms of capital promote continuous and sustainable growth when leveraged right. The adjunct faculty member for SLA 641X is responsible for delivering instruction and providing subject matter expertise to support students’ understanding of collaborative professionalism, with an emphasis on collective expertise and shared responsibility among educators. The faculty member will draw on professional experience to guide students in analyzing and applying strategies for fostering collaborative cultures in schools and using collaboration to promote equitable and inclusive outcomes. This course addresses key elements of human capital development, including the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and retention of teachers and staff. The adjunct faculty member will facilitate learning experiences that examine effective practices for attracting and retaining high-quality educators, with attention to alignment with the school’s mission, vision, and commitment to serving diverse populations. Instruction will support students in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to build and sustain strong, collaborative teams that contribute to improved outcomes for students. Instruction will be provided in an online synchronous setting, for a period of fifteen (15) weeks, one night per week for two (2) hours (synchronous), using the USC Learning Management System (LMS). In addition to teaching, the position is responsible for: assigning course assignments, maintaining regular communication with students, completing numerical grade points for each assignment and assigning a final grade for the course. In addition, the adjunct faculty will also maintain communication and progress monitoring for each student on an ongoing basis throughout the cohort term, providing guidance and feedback on their selected problems of practice within their professional field. The adjunct faculty will prepare their own content and course materials, including the development of presentations, handouts, and toolkits. They will ensure that assigned readings comply with copyright regulations. The position reports to the Program Administrator and faculty advisor for School Leadership Academy. This calendar for this class will be shared when developed for each term. Minimum Qualification: This position requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience at a public school site as a district leader, principal, and/or superintendent. Hold a California Clear Administrative Credential. Desired Qualifications: A Doctorate of Education (Ed.D) or PhD. Experience with teaching and learning, including staff supervision and evaluation, with extensive knowledge and experience in evaluating teaching, data-driven decision-making, leadership, communication, and research-based pedagogy.
