Job Description:

The role is responsible for defining, leading and executing the multi-year transformation of the Global Trade business within Global Payments Solutions (GPS). It is accountable for the transformation strategy and execution framework, investment and funding strategy, target operating and service models, technology modernization and legacy migration, ecosystem partnerships, organizational change and client adoption.

  • The successful candidate will bring together global and regional stakeholders to deliver a more digital, data-led, automated and scalable Trade business while ensuring transformation investment translates into measurable improvements in growth, client experience, operating leverage and risk.

  • Transformation strategy and execution: Own and execute the multi-year Global Trade transformation strategy, aligning Product, Operations, Technology, Service, Sales and regional stakeholders around a common roadmap and measurable outcomes.

  • Transformation blueprint: Maintain and evolve the transformation execution blueprint and playbook, including governance, resourcing, delivery methodology, prioritization and flexible execution models appropriate to available funding and program complexity.

  • Investment and funding: Own the transformation business case and multi-year funding strategy, developing compelling investment proposals and representing Trade through relevant investment, planning and governance forums.

-Target operating and service model: Lead implementation of the future-state operating model and digital-first service model, simplifying and standardizing processes while accelerating automation, data-led processing and straight-through processing.

  • Technology modernization: Provide business leadership for the global migration from legacy Trade platforms to the future-state technology architecture, including migration sequencing, business readiness, risk management and legacy platform retirement.

  • Digital, data and AI: Identify and champion opportunities to use digital capabilities, data, automation, AI and emerging technologies to improve client experience, reduce manual activity and increase scalability.

Ecosystem partnerships: Develop strategic relationships with technology providers, FinTechs and other ecosystem participants, maintaining an external perspective on emerging capabilities and determining where partnership can accelerate the strategy.

  • Client migration and adoption: Lead the strategy for pilot clients, commercialization and broader adoption of new digital capabilities, partnering with Sales, Product, Operations, Service and Technology to support successful global rollout.

  • Change leadership: Drive organizational readiness and adoption across the transformation, ensuring changes to technology are accompanied by the required changes to processes, roles, skills, controls and ways of working.

  • Governance and benefits realization: Establish executive-level transparency across delivery, investment, risk and dependencies, with clear accountability for the realization of financial and non-financial transformation benefits.

Required Skills:

  • Extensive transformation leadership experience within a large, complex financial institution, with demonstrated accountability for major multi-year business and technology transformation rather than solely project or program delivery.

  • Strong Trade Finance and working-capital domain expertise, with knowledge across areas such as Letters of Credit, Guarantees/Standbys, Supply Chain Finance, Open Account and Receivables Finance, including an understanding of the associated client, operational, risk and technology processes.

  • Proven ability to translate strategy into execution, including development of multi-year roadmaps, prioritization frameworks, delivery models, governance structures, resource strategies and measurable business outcomes.

  • Significant experience operating across Product, Operations and Technology, with the credibility to challenge and influence senior leaders in each discipline and resolve complex cross-functional dependencies.

  • Demonstrated technology-transformation experience, including modernization of complex platforms, integration of new technology into existing architecture, migration of clients and processes and retirement of legacy applications.

  • Strong target-operating-model expertise, with experience redesigning end-to-end processes, organizational responsibilities, service models and technology interactions rather than optimizing individual components in isolation.

  • Demonstrated experience driving digitization and automation, including the redesign of manual or paper-intensive processes toward digital, data-led and straight-through processing.

  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, with proven ability to construct and defend major transformation business cases incorporating investment requirements, revenue opportunities, operating efficiencies, risk reduction and other measurable benefits.

  • Experience securing and managing significant multi-year transformation investment, including working through annual planning, continuous funding processes and senior investment-governance committees.

  • Proven global leadership experience, successfully delivering initiatives across multiple regions, legal entities and organizational structures while balancing global standardization with legitimate regional and regulatory requirements.

  • Strong change-management capabilities, including stakeholder alignment, organizational readiness, communications, training, adoption, behavioral change and business transition.

  • Demonstrated senior stakeholder management, with the ability to influence executives and drive decisions across organizational boundaries where direct reporting authority may not exist.

  • Strong risk and control orientation, with experience delivering material transformation within a highly regulated environment and partnering effectively with Risk, Compliance, Legal and other control functions.

  • Excellent executive communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex issues, articulate strategic choices and communicate effectively with senior executives, governance committees, technology leaders and client-facing teams.

  • Proven leadership and talent-development capabilities, including building high-performing transformation teams and creating accountability across matrixed delivery organizations.

Desired Skills:

  • Deep understanding of the global Trade Finance ecosystem, including trends in digitization, electronic trade documents, interoperability, transaction processing, data and the evolving role of banks, FinTechs and technology providers.

  • Experience with Trade Finance and transaction-banking platforms and strategic technology providers, including familiarity with organizations such as Finastra, FIS and IBM and the role such providers can play within a modern Trade architecture.

  • Knowledge of AI-enabled Trade capabilities, including intelligent document processing, compliance and sanctions-screening use cases, workflow automation, data extraction and opportunities for generative AI to improve employee and client journeys.

  • Knowledge of ERP and client-connectivity models, APIs and integration strategies that enable banks to embed Trade and working-capital solutions more directly into corporate-client workflows.

  • Experience creating or leading a Transformation Office / Transformation Management Office, including development of repeatable transformation methodologies, portfolio governance, resource models and executive reporting.

  • Demonstrated experience with complex client and portfolio migrations, particularly where migration must be carefully sequenced across products, geographies, operational processes and underlying technology platforms. Experience successfully decommissioning legacy platforms, including managing the commercial, operational, technology, control and client dependencies required to achieve actual platform retirement and associated cost benefits.

  • Experience developing digital-first service models that combine self-service and automation with specialist human support for higher-value or more complex client requirements.

  • Strong understanding of data as a transformation asset, including how common data models, analytics and improved data quality can enable automation, better servicing, enhanced controls and new client propositions. Experience evaluating build, buy and partner strategies and managing strategic third-party relationships from initial capability assessment through implementation and ongoing roadmap alignment.

  • Strong knowledge of transformation economics, including benefit attribution, capacity release, cost takeout, operating leverage, revenue enablement and tracking benefits through realization.

  • Demonstrated ability to commercialize new capabilities, including pilot-client selection, initial deployment, client feedback, sales enablement and transitioning from pilot to scaled global adoption.

  • Strong external orientation and knowledge of emerging technologies and competitive developments affecting transaction banking and Trade Finance. Demonstrated ability to operate successfully in an executive-level global matrix, creating alignment across stakeholders with different regional, functional and commercial priorities.

  • A leadership style characterized by strategic thinking, intellectual curiosity, execution intensity and constructive challenge, with the ability to move comfortably between senior-level strategy and detailed execution issues. Ability to create a strong transformation culture, establishing clarity of purpose, pace, ownership and accountability while bringing stakeholders with different priorities through significant organizational change.
