Responsibilities include:• Helping create engaging content for social media, websites, print and digital campaigns

  • Assisting in writing and editing public-facing communications
  • Helping plan community events, ceremonies, outreach activities and special events
  • Engaging directly with residents and Fairfax Connector customers
  • Supporting photography, video and multimedia projects
  • Helping coordinate multilingual and inclusive community outreach
  • Working alongside communications, transportation and public-service professionals throughout Fairfax County
  • Performing other duties as assigned

We’re looking for someone who is creative, organized, curious and comfortable juggling multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

For more information on the Fairfax County Department of Transportation, please click here.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for “Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to”) Bachelor's degree in communication, business administration or a related field, plus three years of progressively responsible experience in communication area of specialization.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid driver’s license

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:• Bachelor's degree

  • Experience in multimedia content creation.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite programs and experience creating content with graphic design software or video editing tools.
  • Experience in providing internal and external communications (digital, online, and social media) for government agencies.
  • Experience working with a diverse/multicultural population.
  • Experience in marketing transportation programs or services.
  • Experience in social media, public relations, event coordination, community outreach or customer service.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt content for multimedia platforms.
  • Experience making presentations to groups/leading public meetings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is generally sedentary. However, employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items less than 25 pounds in weight. Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to travel to various locations throughout Fairfax County to provide coverage and to attend meetings and trainings. Ability to attend events or field visits that may require standing, riding, and exposure to weather conditions. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
