Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations and contribute to accurate, timely financial reporting for our team in Santa Barbara, California. This role is ideal for someone with a solid grounding in accounting who enjoys working with numbers, maintaining organized records, and helping close out each month with precision. You will collaborate closely with accounting leadership and colleagues while building deeper experience across reporting, reconciliations, tax support, and audit preparation.

Responsibilities:

• Record and post month-end journal entries to keep the general ledger complete and accurate.

• Support the monthly close by helping compile financial statements and related reporting materials.

• Review financial results for fluctuations and trends, and investigate unusual balances or transactions.

• Prepare reporting packages and organized backup documentation for internal stakeholders and leadership review.

• Reconcile balance sheet accounts, daily cash activity, and deposit records while resolving variances promptly.

• Handle routine banking and cash management tasks through online banking platforms as part of daily operations.

• Assist with tax, regulatory, and industry reporting requirements, including maintaining accurate supporting records.

• Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records to ensure assets are tracked correctly.

• Contribute audit schedules and respond to documentation requests during annual audit activities.

• Help identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, controls, and overall process efficiency. Requirements • Experience in accounting or a related finance support role, such as Staff Accountant, Accounting Assistant, or Accounting Clerk, is preferred.

• Working knowledge of journal entries, general ledger activity, and account reconciliation practices.

• Familiarity with month-end close procedures and the fundamentals of financial reporting.

• Understanding of tax-related reporting, including exposure to corporate tax or sales tax activities, is helpful.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent education and practical experience may be considered.

• Strong attention to detail, sound organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and comfort using accounting and financial systems in a Windows-based environment.

• Clear communication skills, a collaborative approach, and the ability to research discrepancies independently when needed.
