General Description

SUNY Niagara is searching for a full-time Technical Assistant in our Academic Center for Excellence ( ACE ). The Academic Center for Excellence ( ACE ) provides SUNY Niagara students with academic support services such as tutoring, academic coaching, and student success workshops. The Technical Assistant plays an essential role in supporting the operational, technical, and data functions of the Center. Reporting to the Coordinator, this position ensures that the daily activities of ACE run efficiently and that staff and students receive high-quality support. Responsibilities include maintaining appointment and data systems, supporting tutor scheduling and logistics, training and supervising student employees, assisting with technology integration, and contributing to assessment and reporting processes. The Technical Assistant enhances ACE’s capacity to deliver effective, inclusive, and innovative academic support aligned with college-wide retention and success initiatives.

Typical Work Activities

  1. Administer and maintain ACE’s scheduling and data systems (e.g., Penji, Banner, ARGOS ) to ensure accurate tracking of tutoring sessions, attendance, and student engagement.

  2. Generate, compile and analyze reports and data summaries to inform program assessment and improvement, budget planning, and institutional research initiatives.

  3. Train and supervise student employees and assist with tutor onboarding in areas such as technology use, service procedures, and communication protocols.

  4. Provide day-to-day technical support for computers, software, and printing equipment within ACE ; coordinate IT and maintenance requests as needed.

  5. Support the Coordinator in implementing new technologies, workflow improvements, and operational systems that enhance service delivery.

  6. Assist with logistical planning for tutoring schedules, workshops, and student success events.

  7. Support the creation and maintenance of digital and print materials that communicate ACE’s services to students and faculty.

  8. Coordinate communication and data exchange between ACE , faculty, and staff to ensure accurate and timely academic support operations.

  9. Contribute to the maintenance and organization of instructional materials, academic resources, and equipment.

  10. Collaborate with ACE staff to identify opportunities for program improvement and implement data-informed solutions.

  11. Assist in maintaining the ACE website and updating content related to tutoring, workshops, and resources.

  12. Perform other related duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the Academic Center for Excellence.

Essential Functions

Ability to communicate clearly and courteously with students, faculty, and staff; ability to utilize and troubleshoot technology systems; ability to collect and analyze data accurately; ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail; ability to multitask and work effectively in a dynamic, student-facing environment; ability to train and supervise student employees; ability to maintain confidentiality of student records; ability to physically perform the duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with two years of directly related experience in higher education, academic support, or technology-based student services.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).

  • Experience working with data or scheduling systems and technology tools.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Experience working with diverse student populations.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree

  • Experience using systems such as Penji, Brightspace, Banner, ARGOS , or Pharos Print.

  • Experience supporting academic programs, tutoring, or learning centers.

  • Experience with data collection, report development, or assessment activities.

  • Experience supervising or training student employees.

  • Familiarity with student support programs and college systems.
