Full job description

Description

We are looking for a Full Charge Bookkeeper to take ownership of the accounting function for a growing construction company in California. This contract-to-permanent opportunity is well suited for a hands-on, detail-oriented individual who can manage daily financial activity, maintain reliable reporting, and provide meaningful support to business leadership. The role offers strong visibility across the organization and requires someone comfortable working independently while keeping accounting operations organized, accurate, and on schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct end-to-end bookkeeping and accounting activities, ensuring financial records are current, complete, and accurate.

  • Manage payables, receivables, cash posting, and collection efforts to support steady cash flow and timely processing.

  • Track daily banking activity, complete account reconciliations, and oversee positive pay-related transactions.

  • Process weekly payroll for approximately 50 employees and confirm wages, taxes, burden, and labor allocations are recorded correctly.

  • Maintain job cost data within Foundation Software and help monitor project spending against established budgets.

  • Prepare journal entries, reconcile balance sheet accounts, and lead month-end close activities through issuance of financial statements.

  • Preserve the integrity of the general ledger by reviewing transactions and correcting discrepancies as needed.

  • Coordinate year-end accounting support and work with the external accounting firm to provide requested documentation.

  • Collaborate with leadership on financial insights, operational reporting, and improvements to accounting procedures and internal controls.

Requirements • At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience in a lead-level capacity such as Full Charge Bookkeeper, Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or Controller.

  • Prior experience in construction, contracting, roofing, or another project-based environment is strongly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, payroll, month-end close, and general ledger management.

  • Practical experience with job costing and the ability to connect labor and project expenses to financial reporting.

  • Familiarity with Foundation Software is preferred, and experience with QuickBooks is beneficial.

  • Ability to work independently in a hands-on setting with limited supervision.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.
