Description: POSITION SUMMARY: The Program Assistant is responsible for fostering a safe, supportive, and high-quality living environment for individuals experiencing homelessness at Second Avenue Commons. Working collaboratively with the shelter and Drop-In Center teams, this position engages guests and participants in daily activities, promotes independence and socialization, and supports the overall well-being of those served. The Program Assistant provides direct supervision of shelter guests, Drop-In Center participants, and visitors, while monitoring the facility to ensure a clean, welcoming, and secure environment. This role is responsible for recognizing and reporting illegal activities, safety concerns, and other unusual incidents, and for collaborating with Supervisors, Team Leads, shelter and Drop-In Center staff, community partners, and emergency response personnel, including law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical services, as appropriate. To support guest independence and maintain a positive living environment, the Program Assistant assists with the upkeep of shelter rooms and common areas and encourages active participation in maintaining community spaces. This position operates with a high degree of initiative, professionalism, and accountability while reporting directly to Program Supervisors. All duties and responsibilities are performed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, as well as Pittsburgh Mercy's mission, values, policies, procedures, and standards.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors in human services or related field, or High School Diploma/Equivalent with 4 years of job-related experience working with persons experiencing homelessness or behavioral health needs. May have lived in experience as a peer.
  • Must have or gain Certification as a Peer Specialist.
  • Act 33/34 and FBI clearances
  • Pre-Employment Drug Screen

SCHEDULE: (non-exempt/hourly) Monday – Friday 11pm-7am
