Job Title: Powder Coat Paint Lead Job Description

The Powder Coat Paint Lead oversees the day-to-day operation of an automated powder-coating line, ensuring high-quality finishes, safe work practices, and efficient production. This role combines hands-on powder coating and industrial painting work with leadership responsibilities, including training and supporting paint-line team members while collaborating closely with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operation of an automated powder-coating line to meet production, quality, and safety goals.

  • Set up and operate automatic powder guns and perform precise manual touch-up work as needed.

  • Monitor coating quality continuously and make timely process adjustments to maintain standards.

  • Troubleshoot coating, equipment, and process issues to minimize downtime and maintain consistent output.

  • Perform routine process checks, cleaning, and preventive maintenance on powder-coating equipment and related tools.

  • Identify and correct issues involving coverage, adhesion, film thickness, contamination, and cure to ensure high-quality finishes.

  • Support, coach, and train other paint-line team members in proper powder-coating techniques and safety practices.

  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams to keep the line running safely and efficiently.

  • Assist with paint preparation tasks, including racking, general labor, and paint shop support as required.

  • Interpret and follow blueprints or work instructions to ensure correct coating specifications are applied.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of previous powder coating or industrial painting experience.

  • Proven ability to set up and operate automatic powder guns and perform manual touch-up work.

  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting coating, equipment, and process issues in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience leading production teams in a manufacturing setting.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities related to powder-coat line operation.

  • Proficiency with spray guns, spray painting, and spray paint equipment.

  • Practical knowledge of racking and powder coating processes.

  • Ability to perform general labor tasks associated with paint prep and paint shop operations.

  • Capability to read and interpret blueprints or technical drawings related to powder coat painting.

  • Commitment to safe work practices and maintaining a clean, organized production area.

  • Background in industrial painting or production work in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience training and supporting team members on a paint line.

  • Familiarity with automated powder-coat line operation and preventive maintenance routines.

  • Ability to adapt to occasional Saturday work based on production needs.

Work Environment

The dress code allows for practical and comfortable attire, including shorts, and team members may wear one airpod or use a speaker, contributing to a relaxed yet professional atmosphere.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Marne, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
