Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Instrumentation and Controls Technician to maintain, repair, calibrate, install, and troubleshoot plant controls and measurement equipment, including electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and electromechanical systems. The plant runs on a building automation system (Automated Logic), not industrial controls. This person will join a small team, focus mainly on controls, instrumentation, and electrical work, and support plant operations, vendor coordination, and mechanical maintenance as needed.

On a typical day, this person will monitor alarms, review schedules and setpoints, and back up control logic, databases, and graphics. They will troubleshoot the BAS, update logic, tune parameters, make minor programming changes, and complete firmware updates. They will also connect laptops to hardware to troubleshoot VFDs. In the field, they will troubleshoot I/O signals and wiring from the controller to field devices. They will also calibrate, repair, and replace pressure, flow, and temperature transmitters, and complete preventative maintenance on controllers and measurement equipment. They will diagnose plant malfunctions, handle equipment installations, order parts, and support the testing lab. They will oversee electrical contractors and vendors and make sure lockout/tagout and safe work permits are followed. They will also operate the thermal plant as assigned and respond to occasional emergency call-ins, about 1 to 2 times per year.

Skills and Requirements

  • Formal training in BAS/BMS, PLC, HMI, and instrumentation and controls
  • 3 to 5 years of similar experience in an industrial plant setting • Strong instrumentation and controls troubleshooting and calibration experience
  • Experience with electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and electromechanical equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot I/O signals and wiring from controller to field devices
  • Working knowledge of building automation systems • Basic understanding of control logic, tuning, and minor programming
  • Understanding of electrical systems and contractor safety procedures
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Local or committed long term, and able to interview onsite
  • Able to climb ladders and scaffolding, work in confined spaces, and lift up to 30 lbs
  • Automated Logic or similar BAS platform experience
  • Firmware updates and VFD troubleshooting
  • Low-voltage wiring or motor replacement
  • Mechanical maintenance and vendor oversight
  • Equipment installation and plant modification review
  • Steam, hot water, chilled water, district energy, utility, or HVAC plant background
  • Prior lead experience
