Full job description
Datadog is looking for an experienced Senior Field Marketing Manager - Public Sector to own marketing strategy and execution for our U.S. Federal and Defense business. In this role, you will build and run an integrated, multi-channel field marketing program across Federal Civilian agencies, Federal Systems Integrators, the Department of War (DoW/DoD), and the Defense Industrial Base.
This will span mission-focused events, executive briefings, account-based programs, and digital campaigns, in close partnership with Public Sector sales leadership.
The role is a full-funnel mandate with the latitude to prioritize the programs that move pipeline in a market where the buying cycle, the procurement path, and the compliance bar all look different from commercial tech. Datadog for Government operates in a FedRAMP High-certified, AWS GovCloud (US) environment, with work underway toward DoD Impact Level 5. You will be the marketer who translates that platform and compliance story into mission language for program offices, CIOs, and the integrators who build for them. At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them. What You'll Do:
- Set the strategy for, and execute, the integrated Federal and Defense field marketing plan — aligned to Public Sector sales priorities, target agencies and programs, and pipeline goals. You will propose the pipeline target for this segment, not just deliver against one handed to you.
- Build segment-specific program tracks for Federal Civilian, Federal Systems Integrator, DoW/DoD, and Defense Industrial Base audiences, recognizing that each buys on a different cycle and responds to different proof.
- Own Datadog’s presence across the federal event calendar, from large-scale defense and civilian conferences to service association events, agency industry days, virtual events, and targeted executive gatherings.
- Build the program formats that move federal buyers through the funnel — executive briefings, technical workshops, roundtables, and webinars — owning Federal and Defense field marketing budget, audience strategy, target account recruitment, and follow-through.
- Work with Product Marketing to shape Federal-specific messaging and content: FedRAMP High, IL5 progress, data residency, U.S.-persons operations, continuous ATO, zero trust, and the compliance frameworks (NIST 800-53, CMMC, DISA STIGs) your audience is actually measured against.
- Partner with Demand Generation on campaign strategy and execution. Adapt nurture tracks and email motions for a federal audience, manage lead flow and follow-up SLAs with sales, and tune programs based on funnel performance You bring the market context that makes a central campaign land with the audience, and you own stage-over-stage conversion for the segment.
- Raise the bar for the wider field marketing team — mentor less experienced marketers, and bring federal market expertise back into how the broader org plans.
Who You Are:
- 6+ years of field marketing experience in B2B SaaS, including 4+ years marketing to the U.S. Federal government, with a demonstrated track record of driving pipeline for a public sector segment or business unit.
- Direct experience with Defense buyers — DoW/DoD services and combatant commands, or the Federal Systems Integrator and Defense Industrial Base firms that serve them.
- Fluent in the federal buying cycle: appropriations and fiscal-year dynamics, contract vehicles (GSA, SEWP, CIO-SP, GWACs), the role of resellers and integrators, and how an ATO actually gets granted.
- Proven experience planning and executing large-scale federal events, executive forums, and sponsored trade shows.
- Comfortable with the technical subject matter — observability, cloud, DevSecOps, or cybersecurity — and tune messaging that holds up with a technical federal audience.
- Experience with account-based marketing against named agencies and programs.
- Experience owning a program budget and reporting against a pipeline number you are accountable for.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with strong executive presence, and a track record of influencing sales leadership and driving alignment across marketing functions.
- A self-starter who makes confident decisions without a playbook in front of you, and who is comfortable being handed an ambiguous goal and coming back with the plan.
- Hands-on with Salesforce, marketing automation, ABM platforms, and attribution tooling.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Based in or willing to relocate to the Washington, D.C. metro area, with willingness to travel roughly 40% for events.
