Social Media Specialist Location: Fort Wayne, IN Level: Salaried Company/Division: Do it Best Group – Marketing Reports To: Managed Marketing Manager Travel: Infrequent; may attend Markets twice per year and travel as business needs require About the Role: The Social Media Specialist is responsible for creating high-quality content and driving engagement across the True Value brand and participating member brands’ social media platforms. This role develops and executes social strategies that strengthen the national True Value presence while helping independent retailers build awareness, connect with their local communities, and support business growth. The ideal candidate combines creativity, strategic thinking, strong copywriting skills, and a solid understanding of social media analytics. This individual must be able to manage multiple brand voices and priorities while delivering consistent, engaging, and results-focused content. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, curate, and manage social media content and calendars across multiple platforms, with a primary focus on Facebook and Instagram.

  • Create and publish content that supports the True Value brand, national campaigns, seasonal initiatives, products, and promotions.

  • Collaborate with Brand Marketing, Creative, and other cross-functional teams to ensure True Value social content aligns with broader brand strategies and marketing objectives.

  • Partner with Managed Marketing Specialists to develop customized social media strategies that reinforce each participating member’s unique brand and support local business goals.

  • Adapt national campaigns and content into relevant, localized social media materials for independent retailers.

  • Write clear, engaging, and brand-appropriate social copy tailored to the distinct audiences and voices of True Value and participating member brands.

  • Collaborate with creative partners to develop graphics, photography, video, and other platform-specific content.

  • Engage with True Value and member audiences through frequent interactions and community management, helping foster positive online communities and meaningful consumer relationships.

  • Monitor comments, direct messages, online conversations, customer feedback, and reviews, escalating concerns to the appropriate teams when needed.

  • Analyze social media performance to evaluate campaign effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Prepare regular performance reports and provide actionable recommendations based on engagement, reach, audience growth, traffic, and campaign results.

  • Manage and optimize paid social media campaigns and budgets, ensuring they align with True Value and participating members’ strategic goals.

  • Maintain consistent brand standards while appropriately differentiating content across the True Value brand and individual member brands.

  • Stay current on social media trends, platform updates, emerging content formats, and best practices, incorporating relevant opportunities into social strategies.

  • Help educate team members and participating members on social media tools, processes, and best practices using clear, easy-to-understand language.

  • Support change-management efforts related to new platforms, processes, programs, and company initiatives.

  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Digital Media, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.

  • Experience in social media, marketing, advertising, content creation, or a related field.

  • Experience supporting retail, consumer, member-based, or multi-location brands is preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of social media marketing trends and best practices.

  • Familiarity with Meta Business Suite and Meta Ads Manager.

  • Experience with social media scheduling, publishing, analytics, and community-management tools.

  • Basic experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar content-creation tools is a plus.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong social media copywriting, editing, and storytelling skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple brands, social media accounts, content calendars, campaigns, and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Understanding of how to maintain distinct brand voices while ensuring consistency with established brand standards.

  • Self-motivated and able to manage priorities and meet deadlines independently.

  • Excellent project-management skills, including planning, organization, and follow-through.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to interpret social media analytics and translate insights into practical recommendations.

  • Ability to simplify complex information and explain it clearly when training team members or participating members.

  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with Managed Marketing, Brand Marketing, Creative, and other cross-functional teams.

  • Adaptable and comfortable supporting organizational changes, evolving priorities, and new marketing initiatives.

  • Retail social media or multi-brand marketing experience is preferred.
