Full job description

The Role We're looking for a Controller who can own day-to-day accounting operations while helping build the financial infrastructure a fast-growing company needs - accurate, timely financials; clean inventory and cost accounting; and controls that hold up as the company grows. Reporting to the CFO, you'll manage the monthly close, oversee inventory and COGS accounting, and lead a small accounting team. What You'll Do

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, including all journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Manage inventory and cost accounting across co-manufacturers, 3PLs, and warehouses - including standard costing, variance analysis, and periodic physical inventory counts.
  • Oversee trade spend and deduction accounting, working closely with sales and demand planning to keep promotional and slotting costs properly tracked and reconciled.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies appropriate for a scaling business.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including cash flow monitoring and vendor/co-packer payment cycles.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the annual financial statement audit (or review) and for tax preparers, coordinating information requests and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure sales tax, excise tax, and other regulatory filings are accurate and filed on time across all applicable jurisdictions.
  • Own and improve the accounting system and month-end close checklist, including ERP administration and process documentation.
  • Partner with the CFO on cash forecasting, budget-to-actual analysis, and ad hoc financial analysis to support key business decisions.
  • Hire, manage, and develop accounting staff as the team grows.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller.
  • Experience in the CPG industry, food and beverage strongly preferred, including familiarity with inventory accounting, standard costing, and co-manufacturer/co-packer relationships.
  • Hands-on experience with trade spend, deductions, and promotional accounting common to branded consumer products companies.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and experience managing external audits.
  • Proficiency with a modern ERP/accounting system (e.g., NetSuite or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
  • A builder's mindset - comfortable creating process where none exists yet, and equally comfortable in the weeds of a reconciliation.
  • Prior experience at a high-growth or scaling company, where priorities shift and the role expands with the business.
