What we want The Research Assistant in at TAMU Health, Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine Department of Cell Biology and Genetics provides skilled, administrative, and technical support in research. Assists with phases in a research project. In addition, they will plan and direct certain aspects of a research project focused on understanding mechanisms involved related to spinal cord injury. Collaborates with other research personnel.

What you need to know

Schedule: This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.

Travel: May be required to travel.

Please note: This position is grant funded; future employment may be contingent upon future funding.

Responsibilities:

Research

  • Assists in the design, planning, and coordination of experiments in support of various research projects.

  • Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research and keeps detailed record of data.

  • Assists in the installation and operation of research equipment. May repair research equipment.

  • Uses and computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis and technical evaluation of research experiments and results.

  • Evaluates and summarizes experiment results.

General Lab duties

  • Perform hypothesis driven research with a clear understanding and use of controls.

  • Preform experiments at the bench level to support investigative work, potentially including, but not limited to molecular biology assays, DNA sequencing, PCR amplification, RT-PCR amplification, TC culture, BLS2/3 work, CRISPR/Cas9 screening and editing, and analysis of results.

  • Recover, compile and verify accuracy of research data, Interpret and report on experimental results.

Research Publications

  • Assists in preparing and writing proposals to funding agencies; maintains financial accounts related to research projects.

  • Assists with reports, invoices, and cataloging records.

  • Mentorship

  • Assists undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research.

  • Assists with reports, invoices, and cataloging records.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field .

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.

  • Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment.

  • Attention to detail.
