Basic Job Functions:

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. The Strand Technician operates the mold, ladle, tundish, and control panel processes on the caster, ensuring accurate billet dimensions and identification for traceability and maintaining product flow through the cooling bed. Teammates must be willing to cross-train in other positions within the department and fill in as needed to support operational needs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule and unscheduled overtime, rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.

  • Ability to withstand working conditions with elevated temperatures.

  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy weight (50 lbs.)

  • Initiative Independently and proactively seeking out work that needs to be done and being willing to take on responsibilities and challenges.

  • Problem Solving Identifying problems and analyzing or reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

  • Teamwork - Working as part of a coordinated effort with others to achieve a common goal.

  • Accountability- Displays responsibility with work habits and has ability to hold others accountable for desired results.

  • Technical Ability- Has the pertinent experience, skills and technical set to excel in this role. Learns new skills quickly and has the ability to train others.

Preferences:

  • Current or previous experience working in Melt Shop

  • 1 Year Casting Experience
