Job Descriptions:

Kratos Defense & Rocket Support Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support critical defense programs requiring high-quality creation, editing, and maintenance of complex engineering and program documentation. This role supports multidisciplinary teams developing advanced electro?mechanical, optical, and embedded systems.

The ideal candidate is a fast, precise writer and editor who can translate complex engineering inputs into clear, accurate, and user-friendly content. This is a program-facing position focused on documentation quality, clarity, consistency, and configuration control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, write, edit, and maintain high?quality technical documentation, including system descriptions, engineering reports, procedures, work instructions, test documentation, and other program deliverables.

  • Transform complex engineering concepts into clear, concise, user?friendly content for both technical and non?technical audiences.

  • Work closely with engineers, subject matter experts, quality teams, operations, and program management to gather and validate technical information.

  • Create and refine diagrams, graphics, tables, and visual aids that enhance clarity and convey technical details effectively.

  • Review and edit technical documents for accuracy, consistency, grammar, formatting, and adherence to customer and internal requirements.

  • Develop and maintain documentation standards, templates, style guides, and controlled terminology.

  • Track revisions and maintain configuration-controlled documents in compliance with program and quality systems.

  • Support documentation needs for design reviews, testing, qualification, production, and major program milestones.

  • Identify gaps or inconsistencies in technical content and work with engineers to resolve them quickly.

  • Leverage AI-driven tools to enhance documentation efficiency by automating repetitive tasks, improving language consistency, and generating draft content for manuals, procedures, and test documentation

  • Establish and sustain efficient documentation workflows that improve quality, consistency, and delivery speed.

  • Provide guidance, feedback, and informal mentoring to junior writers or team members contributing to documentation.

  • Deliver high-quality documentation on schedule in a fast-paced, dynamic engineering environment.

Required Experience:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications, English, Journalism, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • 8–10 years of progressive experience producing complex technical documentation in engineering-driven, regulated, or high-complexity environments.

  • Proven ability to write and edit clear, accurate technical documents for advanced systems (electro?mechanical, optical, embedded, or similar technical domains).

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to rapidly absorb technical information and communicate it with clarity and precision.

  • Experience working directly with engineering and technical subject matter experts.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple documents, reviews, and deadlines.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and document management/version control tools.

  • Experience using AI-enabled tools for content creation, editing, or language refinement

  • U.S. Citizenship required.

  • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance; active clearance preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or other mission?critical engineering programs.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, test reports, specifications, and technical data.

  • Familiarity with MIL?STD, DoD, or similar documentation standards.

  • Experience developing operations, maintenance, installation, or training documentation.

  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat, Visio, SharePoint, or similar technical publishing tools.

  • Experience creating diagrams, illustrations, and graphics that convey technical concepts clearly.

  • Experience working in systems engineering or Agile development environments.

  • Active DoD security clearance preferred.
